Cooking up a Curry in P4-7 โ๏ธ๐
As part of their ‘food journeys’ focus this term, P4-7 have been learning all about the food we eat and where it comes from.. the perfect opportunity to get cooking! This week’s focus was ‘food miles’, we challenged ourselves to create a recipe which incorporated foods from all over the world and came up with a Slow Cooker ‘All Over the World Rainbow Curry’.โ๏ธ๐
Yesterday morning we split up into our house teams to try out the recipe. Lochnaw team was led by Head Chef Lily and Olivia took charge of Soleburn! Each child was tasked with a different vegetable; carrots, sweet potato, pepper, onions and cauliflower. Our fabulous two head chefs took charge of dicing the chicken. After all of our ingredients were chopped, we added coconut milk, chopped tomatoes to our slow cooker.๐

Then, the wait was on, the smell of curry filled the school as we patiently waited for the vegetables to soften and the chicken to cook. In the meantime, we looked at the packaging for our foods and realised that the ingredients had travelled very far to get to us! We had sweet potato from Egypt, rice from Indonesia, tomatoes from Italy and more. We used google maps to research the milage each ingredient had travelled and with some big calculations we concluded that our meal had travelled over 17,000 miles! ๐บ๏ธ
After all these big calculations and a lot of brain power, we stopped for a break to enjoy our curry… which seemed to be a big hit! Well done P4-7, what a fun day we had exploring foodย miles!๐
