Linking reading to writing

We are learning how to write well structured stories that have all the essential features of a good story.

We looked at lots of picture books and identified  important features the authors had used to engage their audience. We found things like, rhyming, pictures that linked to the story, interesting vocabulary, a clear structure and sometimes a offered a message or a moral  to the reader. As we found then we added post it stickers to remind us where we found them.

We loved reading the stories, we discovered they offer valuable discussion points great opportunities to develop knowledge and imagination.  and

We also realised picture books are not always for young children!

We have been learning about microbes and how germs spread.

We conducted experiments to demonstrate how easily and quickly germs spread from person to person.

Experiment 1 we used glitter on our hands to show  the spread of germs from sneezing into your hand and how they transfer on objects.

In experiment 2 we used a vortex gun with lavender oil to demonstrate the force of a sneeze and how far the sneeze germs travel

Week beginning 5th November

We havestarted our new topic, the Victorians. We began by learning about where in the time line of human civilisation the Victorian era was. We had fun working as a team to order then correctly.

We then sequenced significant events from the Victorian era, including Victoria’s coronation and the death of her beloved husband, Albert.

We are looking forward to finding out more about how the Victorians had an impact on our lives and their legacy. FA407069-762D-4352-905A-7F3F6963DF51

After a VERY busy week organising, practicing and performing our Sharing of Learning  Assembly, we have been enjoying Out door Learning Day!

We  demonstrated  our knowledge of the organs of the body. By drawing round a group mate using chalk we used a life sized body shape then added and labelled all the essential internal organs. We knew lots!

We then designed outdoor maths games to develop our knowledge of maths concepts., including money, multiplication and division.  Some of us were every creative!

We were lucky the sun shone on us too! Perfect day!
