Wk ending 6th September 19

We have been learning all about the Titanic and the history of our character. We have been finding out who they were, why they were on the ship, what class they were, if the survived or died on the ship and if the survived, what happened to them after the sinking.

We have found out some really interesting facts and information. Ask us about what we found out at home tonight!

We have also been learning about fractions and how to find fractions of a whole number. We are all working hard and using a growth mind set to tackle new and challenging learning!.

In science we have been finding out about the science behind why things float and sink. We were interested to work out why huge ships are able to float and why they can sink, like the Titanic. We are also interested to find out what lessons were learned from the sinking to ensure it won’t happen again.

We are excited to find out more and keep diaries about our characters experiences on the ship.

We have also been practicing mindfulness techniques to get us in a positive place to learn.

We have also been learning about improving our writing, we have been looking at features writers use to engage our interest.  We indentified figurative speech in picture books and then classified them so we can use these features in our own writing.

Primary 7S start of term

Welcome to the Primary 7 blog

We have had a busy few weeks, getting to know each other and working hard on creating class rules and expectations.

We decided we would like to learn about the Titanic and have already researched some interesting facts about how the ship was built. We then used the facts to create a poster to share the information with others.  We started reading our new class novel, aka spar,Prince of Cats by Michael Morpurgo which is a fictional story about the only cat to have survived the sinking of the a titanic.

We have also been learning about perimeter and area and how to calculate them.

PE days are Monday, Thursday and Friday but PE kit should be brought daily as timetables may be subject to change. We recommend kits are taken home weekly to be washed and deodorant brought as part of the kit.

We are focussing on working to get her and being kind to each other. We are looking forward to the challenges that primary 7 is going to bring!

Week ending

we have been learning to work together to produce posters demonstrating what we have learned about life as a pirate. We took key information from lots of sources and re wrote what we found in our own words. We cooperated to ensure we all had responsibility for making sure the poster was of a high quality and fully met the criteria.

Wk ending 24/5/19

we have has yet another busy few weeks..

Last week we completed  lots of learning on algebraic equations and angles. We now understand about how to calculate them accurately. We learned about opposite angles, F angles and Z angles… ask me about them!

We also had a fun weekend at Dalguise! We tried all sorts of things that pushed us out of our comfort zones and learned what we can do if we put our minds to it!

This week we took part in a drum workshop which was great fun!

We also worked together to create posters on pirate life and leaflets informing others what they can expect  when they go to Dalguise.

Term 4 Overview

Term 4 overview

As primary 7 begin the countdown to their next big adventure we still have lots of hard work to complete and fun things to do.

This term we will be using the novel Pyrates Boy by E.B.Colin as an opportunity for cross curricular learning. This will allow us the opportunity to discuss human rights, historical events and geography of the world. We will also be linking literacy and numeracy activities to the novel e.g. map reading, compass points, functional writing and comprehension skills.

PE and music will continue as before.

Classes are already looking towards organising the forthcoming Primary 7 events which will also be used as learning opportunities. Specifically:

Sports Day on Thursday 16th May ( weather permitting )

Dalguise on the Friday 17th / Sunday 19th, information will be sent home in due course.

County Sports on Wednesday 22nd May.

Journals will be sent home for a final time on the week beginning 13th June. If you have not yet returned these, please do so ASAP.

Primary 7 leavers assembly will be held on Friday 21st June

Primary 7 celebration day will be held on Tuesday 25th June, pupils chose to catch a train to Stirling to the bowling alley followed by lunch at Frankie and Bennys. Due to fund raising events throughout the year, there will be no cost for this. More information and permission slips will be issued in due course.

Transition information has been issued to pupils with regard to dates and times of visits to their preferred schools.

As you can see, we have a very busy time ahead of us! We appreciate your continuing support in encouraging pupils to continue to work hard and do their best.

Sorry we haven’t posted for a while, the iPad has been away being updated.

We have been reading Pyrate Boy by E.B.Colin and studying some of the issues that have been raised in it.

We have learning about the slave trade and were surprised to discover the issues is still around today and is called human trafficking. We researched using the RSPCC website and made  compared and contrasted the similarities and differences using a Venn diagram.

We we also felt so strongly about how terrible it was, we decided to write persuasive letters to our First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon.

We are hoping for a reply!

We have been learning to convert fractions to decimal and then into percentages.

We have also been developing our comprehension skills by focusing on summarising. We read a text and picked out the key information before re telling what we read in our own words.
