Measuring Craters

On Wednesday, as part of our topic on space, we carried out an experiment to investigate what happens when a meteor collides into a planet.

We tried dropping a marble into flour from different heights, measuring the width of the crater which it made.

At first, we thought that the crater would be smaller if we dropped the marble from a greater height, but we found that the crater became bigger the higher the marble fell from, as it fell at a greater speed and made more of an impact, like a meteor.
