Spanish & French Artists- Art Week

 Bonjour! Hola!

Boys and Girls today you will be learning about some famous artists, a bit of their history, where they lived and their most famous pieces of art. To do that, you will see the information on the sways and you will locate every important place in relation to them on Google Earth.

You will be looking at four artists, two from Spain and two from France. They all did amazing pieces of art, some of them you can find them in museums and others you can see from high up in the sky!

Spicy: Look up for the places given in the Sways, write in your journal about the one you thought was most interesting.

Hot: Choose your favourite artist and do some research about him so you can tell us more.

Let’s begin.

Spain

Five Sense Poem

I found this exercise very relaxing.  My mind was busy thinking about all the different senses and the world around us, so it made it hard to think about anything else in that moment.  This would also be a great strategy to use if you are feeling nervous or tense.  Stop, take a few deep breaths and start to list the things you can see, taste, smell, feel and hear.

I have had some great responses from pupils already.  Some excellent drawings, photographs and paintings displaying the ideas put forward in their poems.

Become an Art Critic – Spicy/Hot

In today’s post, I am challenging you to become an art critic.

An art critic is a person who specialises in analysing, interpreting and evaluating works of art.  Their written reviews are published in newspapers, magazines, books, exhibition brochures, catalogues and on web sites.

In my Sway you will find some hints and tips on becoming an art critic.   You will then have the opportunity to study and assess several well-known paintings.

I would love to hear your thoughts on the paintings, so please come back and discuss them with me on the Blog.  I will be holding an Art Appreciation discussion next week – come along and share your views!

SPICY learners it would be great for you to give this a go as well 🙂

Biography of an Artist – Spicy/Hot

Today you are going to be learning about some of the features of a biography before planning and writing your own.

I have suggested that you base your biography on an artist but, as our theme this fortnight is Expressive Arts, please feel free to choose an artist, sculptor, architect, musician, dancer or actor as your subject.

The Sway below contains all the information required for you to create your biography.

Don’t forget to set your work out neatly, taking a new paragraph every time there is a change of subject.  Please share your completed biography with your teacher, and don’t forget to come back on the Blog to let me know how you got on.   😊

Anagrams – Fruits and Vegetables

Good morning, everyone.

As it’s the last week of our Health Fortnight, I thought I would choose something healthy for my Literacy challenge.  All the answers to today’s anagrams are names of fruits and vegetables.

If you haven’t tried working out an anagram before – it’s easy!  Just unscramble the letters in each question to form the name of a fruit or vegetable.  I find the easiest way to do this is to write down all the letters in random order on a piece of paper.  You can also cut them up and rearrange them that way, moving them around until you work it out.

Click on the Sway to take part.  Good luck!

‘Being Healthy’ – Spicy Poem

Last week I posted a poem on the subject of mental wellbeing.  This week’s poem focuses on Personal and Physical Wellbeing.  First, read the poem or listen to the audio clip, then answer the questions in my Sway.  You may need to do a little research in order to answer some of them.

Being healthy

Mum says I have to brush my teeth
In the morning and at night.
They look and taste much better
But I hate it when she’s right.

Dad says I have to take a bath
And wash my body well.
I do feel nice and clean and fresh
But now he’s right as well!

My brother says I have to wash
My hands to keep them clean.
He’s right, my fingers feel so good
Without dirt in between.

My sister says I have to eat
Some vegetables each day.
She’s right, I have more energy
To run and walk and play.

I feel more healthy and I’ve got
Much better teeth and skin.
Don’t tell them that I think they’re right –
I hate it when they win!

Gillian Craig

Listen to it being read aloud here.

Now answer the questions.  As always, don’t forget to write in complete sentences (not one-word answers) and check that you have included capital letters and full stops.

‘My Worry Box’ – Spicy Poem

Good morning, everyone.

Many of us are experiencing all kinds of emotions at the moment, which is perfectly normal, but we don’t want to let ourselves become overwhelmed by them.  It’s good to find ways of helping ourselves stay positive.

Today’s poem focuses on the subject of keeping our minds healthy, and describes one person’s way of dealing with his worrying thoughts.

Click on the first Sway to read the poem.

Now click on the second Sway to access the follow-up questions. Remember to answer in full sentences and check that you have included capitals and full-stops.

Extension task:  What else could the poet have done to make himself feel better?  What do YOU find helpful when you’re feeing sad, worried or upset?  Discuss with your family and write your thoughts in your Home Learning Journal.
