MILD: Expressive Arts: We can ‘Connect It’ with Body Percussion

Our bodies can make amazing sounds and noises. This is what Anne Meredith, a Scottish composer focuses on in her work.

For the BBC Ten Pieces she created a piece called ‘Connect It’

Here are some videos about it.

I had great fun following the simple steps and copying the people on the screen.

Now it is time to create our own body percussion piece!

Get involved and send in your audios we will put them together and create a ‘Connected’ piece of music!

Mild – Literacy – Tiger Tale Beginning

I have loved seeing your pictures of you out on the prowl searching for tigers, feeling leaves, looking at shapes, describing sounds.

I think we are ready to write the beginning of our Tiger Tale!

This is a paper version of the tail sheet.

This is the spelling sheet Mr Mutch and I shared with you for writing with.

Well-Being Wednesday: Mr.Mutch and Mr. Reid #7

This week they’re back but the competition is off.

They have a different task for you this week.

Watch this week’s episode to find out more

Are you up for some dancing?

Here is the link to the song on Youtube. You can also find it on other platforms such as Spotify.

Listen to the song first

There are different sections to the song and you could probably think of lots of actions.

Such as dancing around, saxophone, actually walking on sunshine and big dance gestures.

Get the whole family involved, you could send in more than once clip.

Remember to send in your video by next Wednesday 10th June.

So that we can put it all together! There will be no episode on Wednesday as we will be posting on Friday instead for the end of the Expressive Arts Grids

Outdoor Art Weaving – Spicy (but suits all levels)

Hopefully you have seen this activity on the grid this week.  During the sunny weather this weekend I took some time out to try this activity too. It was very relaxing (although also sometimes frustrating when the knots can undone  but I kept going). It was a nice quiet time to sit down for a change so I hope you enjoy that aspect of art too. However, a word of warning it was not as simple as it seemed and I think at times I needed two pairs of hands. So don’t forget to ask for help from an adult if needed to set up the weaving loom. Once the frame is sorted then off you go……

If you have less time available or you haven’t gathered any sticks and materials yet you might want to try an easier activity first. You can use any natural materials and present them either as a pattern, a picture of something made from materials, a specific theme or a set colour scheme. Here is one from a P3 pupil called ‘Colours of Nature’ (Thanks Jacob)

Health and Wellbeing – Methlick’s Virtual Gallery – Week 1 – Hot

Good morning everyone!

Let’s take a virtual tour of Aberdeen Art Gallery – https://bit.ly/2AR37X5

With a duration of 2h30 minutes, we highly recommend that you view the tour throughout the week. If you prefer, focus on a specific gallery (Sculpture Court, Collecting Art etc).

Throughout week 1, we are going to  focus on identifying our favourite piece of art within the gallery, sharing our thoughts/opinions and researching the artist.

Click on the Sway below to see everything you will need to complete this activity. An example has also been provided. Good luck and remember to share your work with your class teacher.

Mild – Art and Design – Surprise!!

If you have listened to our book of the fortnight you will know that Nora has an  incredible journey in her Grandma’s garden.

Can you go for a walk and find a garden or wild space to explore?

Look at the shapes, lines and patterns on the leaves.

Nora had a lot of surprises in her Grandma’s garden.

Did anything surprise you?

Henri Rousseau surprised a lot of people when he painted a tiger in this now famous painting.

Find out more about the painting, artist, art elements and techniques to create a collage inspired by Rousseau.

Update – 2nd June @ 14:10

I have been outdoors and have made a collection of leaf patterns. I am about to start drawing the shapes and lines.

I got a surprise when 5 goldfinches landed beside me, just beautiful!!!

How are you getting on?

Mild – Literacy – Reading – There’s a Tiger in the Garden!

Can you find a tiger in your garden?

We will be learning together to write a ‘Tiger Tale’ over the next couple of weeks.

Great writers go out and explore.

They use their senses to take in information to use for story ideas.

When you are out and about can you get your brain to capture what you

  • see,
  • smell,
  • hear,
  • touch
  • and maybe even taste

to help you write an incredible ‘Tiger Tale’?

This is a paper copy of the reading comprehension questions in the sway.
