Last Thursday three teams from Gordon Primary took part in a very close and exciting General Knowledge quiz organised by the Rotary Club of Huntly. The quiz took place in the large hall.
They competed against teams from Insch Primary school.
Teams were as follows;
Agata, Brogan, Lily and Mina
Lucy, Magnus, Erin and Katie (Winning team)
Dawid, Maddy, Gregor and Owen.
Well done to everyone involved!
Many classes did something in the school to celebrate World Book Day.
Primary 4B dressed up as characters from The Faraway tree, their class novel.
P4C were asked to bring in their favourite book to show and talk about. Favourite books included the Hobbit, Bear Grylls, Adventures of the Wishing Chair, Pokemon annuals, a joke book, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and many others.
Last week (13th March) Cameron and Katie from P6 told us about the Junior First Aid course that they had taken part in. They had learnt simple but important first aid guidelines, such as two different ways to help if someone is choking.
Well done Cameron and Katie.
Next Chris, Christine and Pietra told us how they have been busy raising money for Comic Relief by bouncing into school and home again on Space Hoppers. They explained how their journey has been made more difficult because of snow and ice …. and they have the bruises to prove it! Well done Chris, Christine and Pietra for your effort!
Finally P4A showed us what they have been learning about this term; they performed a poem “The Fight of the Year” by Roger McGough, complete with actions. Some of the class read poems that they had written themselves. Others told us they had been learning about electricity and learning how to make a circuit. They showed us models that they had made which had moving parts (a propeller on a helicopter) or parts that lit up (cats’ eyes).
Last Wednesday Nancy Mteki, who has a residency in Huntly with Deveron Arts, came to talk to the Upper Stages at assembly. She showed us her photographs, which included photos of babies and children. Nancy explained that lots of daily activities, like bathing babies and eating is done outside in Zimbabwe. Here, in Scotland, we can usually only eat outside in summer ….if we are lucky!
She told us that the people in Zimbabwe like to make children’s toys, and showed us how to make dolls and footballs using carrier bags and newspapers, things we often just throw away!
Mrs Fitzpatrick and Mrs McIntosh joined in a challenge to make a doll from newspaper and carrier bags. The results were very impressive!
Mr Scrimshaw told the school that there would be a competition for the best doll made from newspaper and carrier bags. We are looking forward to see what pupils of Gordon Primary manage to create by recycling these simple materials!

On the last week of term the p3s will be busy as they will be performing an Easter play for parents, carers and the school pupils. The play is about Easter they have all got a part. They have been rehearsing all the free time they have.We hope you are all excited about seeing the play.

As part of Fairtrade fortnight, classes have been making Fairtrade Sculptures out of recycled Fairtrade products. Many classes have already made a Sculpture!
P1 – Have made a Fairtrade banana tree!

The completed sculptures and collages are being displayed in the dinner hall.

The tours guides are ready to go and give tours around Huntly castle, and there will also be some mini junior guides coming soon…
Primary 5 pupils will be given a chance to watch the current tour guides and decide if they would like the opportunity to train to become a Tour Guide for next year.
Primary 5’s who want to become Tour Guides will have to work really hard. They will have to go through a lot of practicing at home and at school in order to become a successful tour guide. This years’ primary 6 tour guides will help them in their training.
Yay! Now we will be able to have Fairtrade goodies every Friday at little break!!
Now there will be more cheap goodies at 40P.

Hello readers today’s post is about space hopping. The people who are space hopping is Chris,Pietra and Christine we are going to be space hopping to school and back, to raise WONGA for Comic Relief. It will be fun but hopefully the snow will go away so we can bounce better. So if you see us at school please think about donating some money towards C0mic Relief! Also the Huntly Express is coming to see us tomorrow as well, so look out for us we will be in the Huntly Express and you might see us at 8:OO am bouncing to school !
