Early Stages Sports

P4c went to see the lower stages sports.  And the sun was shining and they were doing javelin, superman, egg and spoon race, and hurdles.

They were trying to get the ball into the tyre, they were running  round poles, stiltwalking, kicking the ball round poles and jumping in a sack.

Primary 1, 2 and 3 worked really hard at their sports day and they had a lot of fun.

Non-Matching Socks Day!

Last Thursday (21st March) was non-matching socks day at Gordon Primary school, organised by Primary 1.

Pupils were invited to wear non matching socks, and to bring a donation towards the Scottish Downs Syndrome society. Primary 1 pupils made badges, which they sold for 30p. They were so popular they all sold out, and more had to be made! Primary 1 also went around the school to collect the money, which they collected in a sock. It became VERY heavy.

More than £190 was collected, which has been sent to the society. Well done primary 1 for organising the day!

FAIRTRADE Fortnight

Fairtrade fortnight will be starting soon (February 25th to March 10th).

The FAIRTRADE representatives from all the classes in the school have been busy having meetings and deciding how they could help to promote Fairtrade over the fortnight.

There will be a Fairtrade tuckshop during the fortnight, run by the P4, 5,6, and 7 Fairtrade representatives. There will also be a sculpture/collage competition; each class is invited to bring in Fairtrade wrappers and packets and use these to make a sculpture or collage which will be displayed in the school. Photos of the artwork will be uploaded to the Fairtrade website.

There will also be a Fairtrade logo hunt in the school grounds during the second week.

Primary 4 Fairtrade reps have written letters to parents about the Fairtrade activities. Some reps have been busy making logos (for the treasure hunt) and badges. P 1-3 reps spoke to the early stages at assembly about the fortnight , and P5-7 reps wrote and delivered an assembly to the Upper Stages, reminding them why we should try and support Fairtrade and how Fairtrade helps some farmers to get a better (and fair) deal..

The Primary 6 classes are looking at Fairtrade as their project. P6B designed some lovely posters to promote the fortnight and the tuckshop.

Nursery for the P1’S

Some of the nursery pupils have been spending time P1s classrooms to see what it is like to be a P1 for a while.
They have been spending time in either Mr Wood’s class or Mrs Innes’s class. They are really liking it and are looking forward to P1.
They have been playing and listening to a story. So after the summer holidays, when they go into P1 they will know what they are doing.

Nativity

Primary 1 worked very hard to produce a wonderful performance of the first Christmas. Their performance included lovely singing and great costumes. The cast included innkeepers, kings, shepherds, angels, stars, narrators, sheep, Mary, Joseph and many more.

They performed first to parents and relatives. The audience were invited to make a contribution towards Driel, the schools sponsored child.

After that they performed to pupils and staff. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the performance. Well done Primary 1!

News from the Palace!

A letter recently arrived at Gordon Primary School; we were very excited because it wasn’t an ordinary letter … It was a letter from the Queen!

During the run up to the Queens Diamond Jubilee, pupils in the lower stages had made a massive scrapbook about the Queen which included portraits of her Highness and information that they had found out about her life. They posted the scrapbook to Buckingham Palace as a gift for her for her Jubilee Celebrations.

They were delighted when a letter with a Buckingham Palace postmark arrived at the school in November. In it was a letter, signed by The Queens’ lady in waiting thanking the children for the “splendid scrapbook”. The letter also contained some leaflets about the Queens working day, Buckingham Palace and her pet corgis.
