Huntly Castle Tour Guide Launch

This afternoon the launch of the 4th year of Huntly Castle Tour Guides took place at Huntly Castle. A group of p5’s, who will be going up to P6 next session have been training hard at learning how to deliver a tour to groups of school children and other visitors to Huntly Castle. All the p5s have been learning a song from Elizabethan times, helped by Keith Cockburn.

Parents, members of the local community, Lumsden School  and the Huntly Express were all invited.

The new tour guides walked down to the castle, accompanied by the bagpipes, played by Jack McGowan.

The p5s sang a song connected to Huntly Castle, accompanied by Keith Cockburn. Other entertainment included a dance called the Pavanne, based on dances from the 17th century. The tour guides then delivered their first tour.

After that a group of children served refreshments.

The afternoon went very well  and we wish the new tour guides every success!

Thanks you also to the present P6 tour guides who have done a wonderful job of delivering tours this session!

GOTCHA

The P6 pupils who had taken part in GOTCHA told the school about their experiences at the US assembly.

They explained how they had to apply to be a part of GOTCHA, saying what skills and strengths they would bring to the group.

Then they told about their training; learning how to put up a tent, to use a map and compass and to work together as a team.

Then they told us about their experiences on the overnight camping trip. They had to walk through the Bin Forest to their destination. All groups got lost at some point, but they all arrived at their destination safely. They help to cook food in the evening, and most enjoyed eating the cheesy pasta. They all enjoyed the pancakes and marshmallows! They thanked the staff and parents who helped them and who also camped overnight with them.Everyone had a great time and got a lot from the experience!

All the pupils who took part in Gotcha were given a certificate. Well done!

Learning Council.

The newly elected Learning Council held their first meeting this Tuesday. They got to meet other representatives and vice reps. Each representative will have a folder with the school logo for storing minutes and ideas, and a badge.

They discussed how they could become an effective group and make positive changes in the school.

They will be meeting again early next session.

FAIRTRADE Award!

The Fairtrade group met this Monday lunchtime and were given the good news that Gordon Primary have achieved Fairtrade Status for the third year!

Mrs Innes, Mrs Sell and Mrs Webster thanked the Fairtrade group for their enthusiasm and hard work throughout the year and particularly during Fairtrade fortnight.

The group decided that P7 representatives would announce the good news about Fairtrade status at the end of term assembly. They would also thank the volunteers who have helped running the Fairtrade tuckshop and the Fairtrade stall at parents evening and also all parents, pupils and staff for their support. The local ethical trading shop, Elturnatives would also be thanked for the support they have given the school in running the Fairtrade tuckshop.

Sports Championships

Achievements in Sport were celebrated at assembly today.

The four swimmers (Pietra, Jasmine, Leah and Katie) who recently took part in the Swimming Championship showed pupils and staff a video of their races. They came 9th in the national competition. Well done!

The Primary 7 Sports champions were also announced at assembly.

Runners up are Lucy B, Cameron R, Jack H  and James M

The overall Girls Winner was Jasmine E and the boys winner was Owen M. All champions received a small trophy to keep, while the overall winners have their names engraved on a school trophy to be kept at school and presented yearly.

Well done everyone!

Park trip

Yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 2cnd July) my  class  went  to  the  Deveron  park.

First  we  went  to  the  stream  to  let  some  frogs  free.

Then  we  went  to  the  Cooper  Park  for about 40  to  50  minutes . I went on the spider web .  It was  really fast.  I fell  off of the spider web!

After that   we  went  to  the  Deveron  park for about 30  minutes. We all  ran to the water side and took our shoes off. Then we went into the water.

Then  Miss  Sell told us  it was  three o’Clock so we headed back  to school.

Deveron Walk

Our class p4c went to the Deveron  on Thursday the 27th June 2013.

First we had a short play in the park and then we went for a walk  right along the Deveron.

Then we went under the bridge.

After that we went through the Meadows  and  some people saw their trees that they planted last month.  And then we took a short cut  to the Deveron. We had a paddle in the water.  We made a bridge to get over to the bigger stones. I forgot to say we had  lunch there .

We had fun and then went back to the school. It was very good.

Tree Planting 2013

End of term Disco

There is a end of term disco on Thursday 4th of  July. It will primary sevens last disco at the primary school! The disco will be held  in the large hall. The P.T.A.are organising it. The money that gets raised is going to P.T.A.funds,. Money raised by the PTA is used for many important things in the school.

Glenshee

Last Thursday p7s came back from Glenshee. They had an amazing time there. These are some of the activities that they were doing. – raft building , rock climbing ,and they even did some arts and crafts . Staff at the Compass Christian Centre commented on the good behaviour of the p7s and on how well they co operated with each other.

The boys had to go up a lot of steps to get to their rooms and so did the girls. The teachers that went there were  Mrs McIntosh, Mr Wood, Mr Scrimshaw and Miss Philp Smith.  They all  had an amazing time there.
