Nursery Babies!

The nursery eggs have hatched today and staff and pupils are delighted to have 5 brand new chicks. The children were able to watch the chicks slowly pecking their way out of their shells.

The chicks were very tired after their hard work and are resting now.

Chicken Man

As part of their project about Living Things  the Nursery children had a visit from a man who rears chickens.

He explained about how chickens grow in the egg and  how they hatch out. The children were able to watch the chickens and to gently stroke them to feel how soft and fluffy they were. Now they are even more excited for their own chicken eggs to hatch …not long now!

Nursery Bug Hunt

The nursery pupils were looking for bugs in the Nursery garden. They found worms, woodlice, snails and even a cat!!  The good places where they found lots of bugs were in the soil and under the fence. They observed the minibeasts carefully and talked about how it was important not to harm small creatures.

Nursery menagerie

The lucky nursery pupils are lucky to be sharing thier classroom with lots of interesting creatures.

They have young frogs, which they reared successfully from tadpoles earlier this term.

They also have stick insects. The nursery pupils find it fascinating seeing how cleverly the insects camouflage themselves.

They are looking forward to their next arrivals; they are incubating hens’ eggs, which are due to hatch next Wednesday. They discovered that if they hold the eggs up to the light they can see the chick moving around inside it!

ZOOLAB

The morning and afternoon nursery have had a visit from zoo-lab and met many weird and wonderful creatures even the disgusting ones. There were rabbits, frogs, snakes, spiders and snails. All the children got a chance to hold them but only some were brave enough to conquer the sliminess.
Here are some pictures from the event.

Nursery News

The nursery have been busy joining in with Fairtrade fortnight.

Groups of nursery children have been visiting local shops. They have been making sure that their snack is Fairtrade, so they have been looking out for the Fairtrade  logo in different shops around the town and finding out which shops stock Fairtrade products . They chose the fairtrade product to eat for snack and paid for them.

They visited the local Ethical Trading shop, Elturnatives, and found out more about Fairtrade products.

Back at school they enjoyed their snacks, including delicious and healthy Fairtrade fruit.

They are also taking part in the “Find the Logo” competition.

ALEC Bus

All classes at Gordon Primary visited the ALEC bus and learnt about keeping themselves safe and healthy.

The nursery children enjoyed meeting Harold the giraffe. They learnt about  their bodies, and learnt where their ribs, heart, stomach and lungs were. They learnt about keeping themselves healthy by washing, eating well, sleeping and having plenty of exercise. They enjoyed brushing Harolds teeth!
