This term P1T have been learning about lots of things! They have read about Jack and the Beanstalk. They have planted beans and watched them grow, they are recording the beanstalks as they grow. They have written wonderful stories and changed the ending of Jack and the Beanstalk.

Last Wednesday there was a meeting held for P6’s parents and pupils about the annual school trip to Alltnacriche. Here they learnt lots more about the activities available, daily routines and small ‘jobs’ to be done around the site. The P6s got to choose 3 people they would like to share a room with. They also voted between kayaking and a wildlife nature reserve- Kayaking WON!!!!- Which activity would you have chosen?

Primary 6/7 have been writing a poem about daffodils after listening to poetry written by William Wordsworth.
The poem we heard was about a man who looks outside and sees lots of daffodils, apparently ten thousand.

Most P7s will be going to Lendrick Muir, which is a residential trip to central Scotland (Kinross area, then to Edinburgh on the last day.)
There was a meeting for the Mums and/or Dads to attend, the children could also attend if they liked. We received a kit list, planner for the days we are there, pictures of the activities and a plan of the building.
Lendrick Muir has many activites, such as inflateables, bungee fun, rocket launch and even watersports. We are also having a cheesy disco!
All the P7s that are going are looking forward to the trip. It is a little bit like the P6s’ trip to Alltnachrice which most of the children attended last year.

P6 have been learning to prepare a presentation on their own, in a pair or in a three. Everyone can choose what they want to do,when they do it and how they do it. In our class Cameron and Ross have already finished their presentation and shown it to the class. Cameron and Ross did their presentation on their football club.

After Wallaces death a new guy called Robert the Bruce took his place.
He fought in the battle of Bannokburn againgst the English army.
Robert the Bruce won the battle and cut Henry De,Bohn’s skull in two!

P6 (Mrs. Sanders and Mrs. Emmerson) have been set a challenge to create a presentation over a period of time. They can work on their own, in pairs or in threes. It can be anything from sport to fashion, from the Great Barrier Reef to the Smurfs. We will update you about this in a fortnight.

Primary 4 have been making stain glass windows of Robert the Bruce using white,purple,red,blue and pink tissue paper. They are beautiful.

The nursery have been learning about lots of things including “people who help us”. The nursery children told me that they have learned that a nurse makes you better and firemen travels in a fire engine. They have been outside looking at spring flowers and they found crocuses which were purple and white.

On Thursday P6 had a visitor from the Scottish Parliament. The lady told us how parliament works using a slide show. We were divided into 6 groups or parties and we had to pick candidates to represent each group. There was an Animal Welfare Party, a Computer Party, a Music Party, a Save the Earth Party, a School Party and a Sporty Party. The leader had to say a speech about their group. Using a ballot paper we had to vote for the group we liked best. We also learnt about debating. We were debating if we should or should not have school uniform. We decided we should. We all had lots of fun.

This term P2 have been learning to use VCOP. Lately they have been learning to identify and use ‘Wow’ words like stripy, spotty, etc. They have also been learning connectives (joining words). Primary 2 are really enjoying learning about VCOP (Vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation)
Primary 7 are learning about Fairtrade. Our class are participating in Fairtrade Fortnight, we are going to promote Fairtrade products within the school. We are going to make our Tuck Shop all Fairtrade, changing the tea/coffee to Fairtrade tea/coffee in the Staffroom we’re also doing a Fairtrade Community Cafe. We are also hoping we are going to get lots of money for Fairtrade.

Miss Jamieson’s, P6/7 class had a debate over whether homework is vital for a child’s education or not. Half of the class were in the pros team which were the team trying to keep homework. The other half were in the cons team which were the team trying to get rid of homework.
We had 4 pieces of card that said yes, no, abstain and request to speak. We gathered around the biggest table in our class and had a debate. You held your request to speak card when you wanted to speak.
In the end 3 went for abstain they didn’t want to vote
10 went for yes we would like homework
11 went for no, homework is boring.
Although the cons may have won we still get homework.

Primary 4/5 have been learning about the battle of Falkirk. We did computer research, writing and listening. At the Battle of Falkirk the English fought the Scots with William Wallace as their leader. English archers poured arrows down on the Scots schiltrons and William Wallace fled. English soldiers caught William and he was hung, drawn and quartered. His body parts were sent back to Scotland as a warning…
