We hope that this is wonderful year for everyone at Ellon Primary school and their families.
A number of pupils have started the year off with New Year Resolutions. Here are Sophie, Sean and Kerena from Primary five who have decided to eat more fruit, get better at tidying up and Sean has decided to walk his dog more often. Good luck to everyone who has set themselves a New Year Resolution. We look forward to hearing about how you get on.
Well what a show!! Parents, granparents, brothers and sisters, young and old all lined up waiting in anticipation for the P6-P7 Christmas show. The outfits were put on, the last minute adjustments to hair were put in place and then it was time to get going.
We were all feeling a bit nervous but we were looking forward to putting the show on too. The songs were quite hard to learn but we knew we would be able to do them well because we had all tried so hard to learn the words and the actions.
Here are some photos of our concert:
We also have some short video clips of our concert too which will be uploaded very soon. Watch this space!
Ellon Primary School’s P6-7 Netball team played against Auchterellon Primary at Old Meldrum Academy on the 11th of December. The played extremely well and showed off their team working skills and creativity. As a result, they won the game 12-0. Lois-Jay Muir was given the prestigious title of “Player of the Match” so an extra well done to her too!
This is an amazing achievement for our netball team and we are absolutely delighted with how hard they are working.
Thank you to their coaches who work with them every week and help them to achieve their goals.
One of the roles of the Kid’s Council is to represent their classes and help with events. Here are Austin, Erin and Cameron welcoming parents to the school today, handing out programmes for the P4s -5s Christmas concert and selling calendars for the Parent Council. Well done to the three of them.
Katie Stewart, Esther Morris, Ailbhe O’Sullivan, Ellie Jaffrey, Kayla Wotherspoon, Erin Kelly, Lois Jay-Muir, Shanna Kelman and Evie Howells took part in their first Garioch Netball League at Old Meldrum Academy with huge success. They won their match 7-0 and Esther won Player of the Match. They are very excited about their next game which will be on the 11th of December. Good Luck to all of you!
The Santa Fun Run was held on the 29th of November. An amazing 248 people signed up to put on their Santa costume and run two kilometres around Gordon Park.
The event saw young and old, babies and even dogs waiting with anticipation and excitement at the starting line. When the horn blew at 10.30am the fun began. Each Santa had the finish line firmly in their view as they went, “ho, ho, ho” around the park.
However, not only will they receive an applause and a medal to keep for life, they were then greeted by the extravagant Christmas fayre. This included a number of stalls, spectacular food, bouncy castles and even a glorious Santa’s Grotto once we managed to tempt Santa away from the chocolate fountain!
We would like to say a massive thank you to Erin’s mum, Tracy Kelly and Mrs. Stewart who put so much time and effort into organising the event. We really appreciate it. Have a look at some of the pictures below.

We are doing lots of subtracting and some people are enjoying it! We have been stuck with a kind of take away – the one with the missing number at the start! Yesterday we played a game of subtraction bingo on the computer and a few people missed out some numbers!
We all came to school in red clothes and red hair because it is Red Nose Day. We also wore our red noses. All the red noses are dinosaur themed.
We have been writing stories about a magic paint brush. First we heard the story called The Magic Brush and it was a good story. Some of us have written really long ones! We had to follow a plan to write the stories.
We made posters and one group got to go up and tell everyone all about it. They told us about feelings – feeling happy, sad and excited. The P1s posters were about happy and sad. All the posters were brilliant.
We drew pictures of a toy shop and we had each square with toys from different years. We looked at The Toy Shop picture painted by Peter Blake. The Toy Shop is an olden days one. We are getting on great with them.
We finished making the popcorn strings for the enterprise and put them in bags. We made labels for them. We were talking about how much they will cost. The popcorn strings are 25p. We made bird food too and we were making shapes with the bird food. We have been making mars bar crispies to sell. We put the spare bird food into bags to sell. We are going to the Christmas fair on the 1st of December and that’s when we are going to sell the stuff that we made. We are hoping to make money for the school.
We made wonderful firework posters for firework safety. We played a Gunpowder Plot game. We needed to guess which cellar Guy Fawkes was in by answering all of the questions. We wrote a fireworks senses poem.
In maths, P2 were doing even numbers and odd numbers. P3 have been multiplying numbers for our times tables.
We learned about where our country is on the globe. We were looking to see how it turns night into day. We are turning our pet shop into a museum and library.
We were outside in the playground. We drew a road with chalk and then we crossed it. Then we had 2 cars and we had to cross the road when the cars were on the road.
Some P3s and some P2s were making up questions for their reading groups.
We did a firework problem solving activity. We counted rockets with 3 or 4 stars and we had to make numbers 10, 15, 25, 60 and 70 by using cubes to count them. It was quite hard for some of us! We watched and read a story for firework safety on the smartboard. We found out about the firework code. We read out all of the code and we learned about how to stay well back from fireworks. We found out that when you are finished with your sparklers you need to put them in a bucket with cold water. We learned not to do dangerous things with fireworks.
We read a story about a Hallowe’en party and had to finish it off. We had to put in capital letters and full stops and we had to make sure we put in some connectives. We had to use spooky wow words!
