Arbroath High School – County Sports 2016

AHS County Sports Squad 2016

The 2016 County Sports saw a dry but cool and overcast day at Caird Park. With settled weather the PE department threw caution to the wind and went without their trusted marquee.  All the competitors were tense but, like a well-oiled machine, the cogs began to turn and we all dared to dream the dream.

Max Bremner drew first blood with an emphatic victory in the S1 Boys’ Hurdles.  His elder brother Nick made it a family affair later returning convincing victories in the S2 100M and 200M. Niamh Feighan returned double gold in the Shot and Discus for the senior girls.  The gold rush didn’t stop there with Elliot Boath returning double gold for 100 M and High Jump.  In the S1 girls Kaitlin Bastow blasted her way to victory in the 200M.  Rachel Lorimer produced an outstanding run to win the S2 Girls’ 200M.  S2 boys saw Logan Swankie win Gold in the Triple Jump and silver in the discus.  Owen Ruxton produced a fine throw to secure gold in the Javelin.  For S3 boys Arran Lyall won a gold at Discus and a silver for Shot Putt.  Anna Robertson won Javelin on the way to a good all round performance.  In senior boys Adam Brewer in his first year in this age group won gold at Javelin with Kailin Branigan rounding out his school days with a fine gold for High Jump.

S1 Boys and S2 girls struck gold in the relays romping home to victory by some considerable margin.  The relays in general proved to be highly successful with all the teams coming home in medal positions bar two.

AHS won the overall competition by 54 points and also accrued 5 wins out of 8 for the        A league schools age group competitions.

This was a truly special day and is the culmination of several years’ very hard work within the PE department with these incredibly talented, enthusiastic and dedicated performers.

Everyone who participated contributed to an overall outstanding performance. The gauntlet has been laid down to all the other Angus Schools and the trophy has been brought back home!

Finally, many thanks to all our helpers, volunteers and staff both on the day and in the lead up, we couldn’t have done this without you.
