A greater range of CPD opportunities should be provided for experienced Headteachers, from the middle years of Headship onwards. The new national leadership pathway should not stop at Headship, but should include ways in which experienced Headteachers can continue to develop and refresh their skills and competences.

4.1 Strategic Leadership Development Programme (SLDP) – (subject to confirmation)
Programme Objectives
The SLDP is a national programme delivered by SCEL and the Virtual Staff College. It is designed to respond to the growing need to provide challenging and effective CPD on leadership for our most experienced colleagues and to promote a shared understanding between head teachers and their local authority colleagues of how we can collaborate effectively to lead the necessary improvements in our service.
The programme offers participants the opportunity to:
- reflect on your approaches to leadership and receive coaching to develop your leadership skills;
- work with colleagues locally to influence strategic improvement;
- participate in our online learning community. This will involve browsing and researching, sharing ideas and providing a small number of short updates on progress made;
- collaborate with colleagues in other local authorities on shared themes for improvement.
Who is it for?
This course is aimed at experienced Headteachers and Central Staff who will work together on a system level project through close collaboration with other local authorities.
