UK Rock Challenge® hold events in your local areas across the UK with the aim to inspire, engage and motivate young people to make healthy and positive lifestyle choices. The Rock Challenge® and J Rock™ are excellent opportunities for young people to perform with their school, live on a professional stage whilst encouraging an adrenalin-based high that can be experienced through performing rather than using tobacco, alcohol or other drugs. There are many schools from across Dundee and Angus who participate in these events and we are hoping to expand and attract more schools this year to get involved in this great opportunity.
Our events are facilitated by The Be Your Best Foundation, registered charity since April 1998 (registered charity number 1077291). The events provide the opportunity for schools and colleges to create dance and drama performances about a theme of their choice- this can be anything from a real life issue such a global warming or a fictional story like Cinderella. The piece must be 5-8 minutes long and set to a commercially available soundtrack. They then attend one of our local events where they perform their piece front of an audience of family friends and a panel of professional judges.
On Tuesday 19th September registration will open as the Rock Challenge® and J Rock™ tour returns for 2018! Senior Schools, Academies and Sixth Form Colleges can enter from 06:00am whilst Junior and Primary Schools/ Academies can register from 06:30am to take part in one of the region’s most exciting and popular performing arts events.
We are also hosting a presentation to interested schools at the Caird Hall, Dundee on Thursday 31st August 2017. This is a great opportunity to speak to some of the Rock Challenge® team, volunteers and teachers as well as a chance to find out more about our 2018 events, what Rock Challenge® and J Rock™ is and the benefits it brings for the school and its students!
