Our Current Interests

We have been showing an interest in the changing trees outdoors.  Many of us have been bringing in lots of autumn items especially conkers and leaves!  We have been building upon this interest in nursery.   We have been enjoying the sensory autumn objects in the water tray and have been looking at autumn books and puzzles.  We have also been using natural autumn materials to extend our play in the play-dough, sand and at the drawing table.  We will continue to develop this.

We would welcome any suggestions for autumn related activities.  You could reply to this blog post or write a note on the planning board in nursery.

We plan to build upon our interest in autumn on our trip to Drum Castle next week.

Reminders – Nursery Party

On Thursday 28th June the pre-school children will have their nursery party.  All pre-school children should only attend nursery in the afternoon on this day.  The party will begin at 12.45 and end at 3pm.  Please remember that all children must have at least one parent/carer with them at all times.  Siblings and family members are welcome too.  A short presentation will take place at 2.30pm.

All ante-pre children should attend the morning nursery session on this day.

Thank you.

Piggy’s tummy was full of pennies!

We recently counted piggy’s full tummy and found that he had swallowed more than £50.  Thank you everyone for your loose change over the last year.

We bought some new non-fiction books about people who help us.

We also chose some new construction.  We had liked it (and requested it) when we played with it at the science centre.  We can’t wait for it to be delivered soon! 🙂

Police Visit

We were delight to meet a new friend today, Policewoman Shona!  She spoke to us about her job and let us try on her body armor and hi-vis vest.  She also told us about her radio and her magic spray.  We all thought that a policewomen’s only job was to take naughty people to jail.  We found out that she does much more than that.

Thank you so much Shona – please come again soon! 🙂

Aberdeen Science Centre

We had a wonderful trip to ASC on Tuesday.  We were very excited to travel on a big bus and enjoyed all of the different science resources in the centre.  We stroked iguanas and met policemen, paramedics, lolipop men and people that work on the lifeboats.  We also explored gravity, forces and magnets.

Thank you very much to all of our super helpers!

Thank You Dobbies

We wrote letters to Dobbies asking for help with our nursery garden.  They were able to donate more than £100 worth of stones, chippings, slate, cobbles, slabs and border fencing.  Thank you very much Dobbies.  We look forward to using them to develop our garden next term.

Nursery Induction

Please use the link below to access the nursery induction presentation that was shared with parents last week.  Those of you that were unable to attend should now have your induction packs.

Information about start dates and key workers will be shared in the coming weeks.

Thank you.

Congratulations Meghan and Harry

We had a wonderful time celebrating the royal wedding.  We chose to celebrate the wedding after it had happened to enable the children to have greater understanding of what the wedding involved.

We wore our party clothes and had lots of fun dancing in the hall.  We also made crowns and flags.  We had a special British snack: cucumber sandwiches and, strawberries and cream.  We even had special wedding juice!

Preparing for Primary 1 – am class

We have been finding out more about Primary 1.  In small groups we used a talking tub to help us share our worries and happy feelings about going to Primary 1.   The tub was full of resources related to being a big P1 including: school uniform, gym shorts, reading books, lunch cards, school bag etc.  We each chose an object and, with some careful questioning, were able to talk about its purpose and how it relared to everyday life in P1.  This helped us learn lots of new things and helped ease some of our worries.  We are all very excited about Primary 1!

(The afternoon class will be looking at the talking tub this week).

Garden improvements

We have been working hard to improve our nursery garden.  We looked at photographs of other nursery gardens and made important decisions about what we need/want in our garden.  We wrote letters to a range of local businesses asking them for help locating different types of loose parts.  You can see more about this on the wall display in nursery.

Here are a selection of the fantastic letters that we wrote to different companies.
