Forest fun – green and blue

We had fantastic adentures in the forest today.  The morning class were particularly interested in using string and ropes to extend their play.  Several children worked together to make a giant spider web – try having a look next time you are passing through.

We were all learning to keep ourselves safe by assessing the risk involved and thinking about how we can take risks safely.

Many of us continue to be interested in mud and minibeasts.

The afternoon class spent a long time baking, cooking and mixing with the mud.  They explored different consistencies of mud and giggled as they tried to serve their delicious ‘food’ to their friends. A few children used paintbrushes to paint the trees with mud!

The afternoon class were very resilient today- they experiences rain, snow and wind! And the vast majority were unfazed! 🙂

We all learned to follow new safety rules and managed to keep ourselves safe around the ‘fire’.  If we continue to show that we can be safe around the ‘fire’ we will light a real fire! We want to cook marshmallows and sausages!

Here are a selection of photographs from the morning session:

Forest pm – red and yellow

We all had lots of fun exploring the forest in the pouring rain.  We particularly enjoyed investigating the mud and were able to use maths words such as deep, shallow, high and low as we jumped, climbed and ran in the mud.  We also spoke about why the mud was thicker in certain places.

Many of us in the afternoon class showed an interest in bugs.  We used pictures and information books to help us find out what each minibeast was called.

We had our snack in the forest using our new ‘handwashing tree’  and particularly liked warming up with a nice cup of steamy hot chocolate.

A huge thank you to all of our super parent helpers!

Forest am – red and yellow

We had a fantastic forest session this morning with the red and yellow boys and girls.  The weather was great and the heavy rain had created lots of thick, oozy mud in the forest.  Many of us enjoyed jumping, squelching and falling in the mud! A lot of us showed an interest in using rope and string to extend our play.  This is a super way of encouraging us to develop fine and gross motor skills in addition to problem solving skills and perseverance.

We had our snack in the forest and were able to follow the new routines of washing our hands using our new hand washing tree! We warmed up with hot chocolate! A huge thank you to our mummy, granny, daddy and grandpa helpers – we couldn’t do it without you! 🙂
