Week Beginning 20.2.17

This week we have a student teacher joining our class for the rest of the term. Her name is Miss Lyon.

Our open afternoon is on Wednesday from 3.00-4.00pm.

L – 10 times table jumbled and division facts      5+4=9    5+6=11

–  Jigsaw numbers to next multiple of 10       32 + 8 = 40

C – Addition 2 digit + 1 digit numbers

Our focus for other maths work this week is still data handling. We will be conducting surveys and displaying information in various ways such as tick charts, tally marks, tables, bar charts, pictograms and other diagrams.

French – This week we will focus on revision of the colours.

Homework – Our spelling pattern this week is oi as in coin. Please write each word 3 times and choose 2 words and write a sentence with each. Spelling test will be on Friday this week so homework should be completed by then. Some of the children have an extra spelling challenge again in their homework book.

Topic – Last week we started talking about our new topic of Our Senses. This week we will be concentrating on sight, looking at the parts of the eye, optical illusions, colour and glasses and contact lenses.

Week beginning Thursday 16.2.17

As this is a very short week with just 2 days in school the children will have no written homework, but will get a reading book on Thursday.

Our Big Maths and other maths work will continue as last week’s plan.

We will work on our French numbers to 20 with some games and activities to recognize and remember their names.

The children have chosen “Our Senses” as our topic for the rest of the term. We will be learning about sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch.

Week Beginning 6.2.17

This week the photographer will be in school on Wednesday.

Next week is our mid-term holiday, with Monday being a holiday and Tuesday and Wednesday in-service days. The children are in school on Thursday and Friday only.

Reading – The children will get 2 new books this week on Monday and Thursday. Thursday’s book will not be read in school, but can be read at home. We have another visit to Kincorth library booked for our reading time on Thursday.

Topic – Last week we finished off our topic of Scotland with a whole school assembly where each class got to share some of their learning. We recited our poem and showed off some of our artwork. The children made beautiful Macintosh rose pictures which are pictured above. They also enjoyed looking at Aberdeen on Google Earth and finding Kincorth and some of their houses. This week the children wil be choosing our new topic for the rest of the term.

Our focus for other maths work this week will again be time. This week we will continue with quarter to and quarter past, particularly the digital times. We will also be looking at durations of time – how long from 1.00 until 2.00 or how long from 1.30 until 2.00?

Topic – This will be our last week on our topic of Scotland. We have been learning some Scottish words like blether meaning to chat. We painted a Scottish landscape picture with a loch, mountains and a castle. Our topic will finish on Friday with a whole school assembly where the children will get to show what they have learned to the other classes. Remember to wear something tartan if possible.

Our focus for other maths work this week will again be time. We spent last week revising o’clock and half past times both on analogue and digital clocks. This week we will move on to quarter to and quarter past. I have asked the children to look around their house to find out how many digital clocks they have.

Topic – We will carry on with our topic of Scotland. We have been learning about the thistle as one of Scotland’s symbols and made one with tissue paper for a craft activity. This week we will be looking at tartan patterns and making our own. The children will take home our “Crocodile” poem this week to practice at home.

Topic – We will carry on with our topic of Scotland. We have looked at a map of Scotland and found where the main cities are. This week we will be learning some Scottish dancing, learning a Scottish poem ( a copy will be sent home to practice) and learning some more about the customs of our country. If the children have anything relating to Scotland at home they can bring it in.
