Week beginning 3.10.16

Here we are already at the last week of term. School finishes at 3.00pm on Friday 7th October and we start again on Monday 24th October. Hope you all enjoy the break.

We will be attending church on the last day of term.

Reading – The children will get 1 new book this week on Monday. Books will be taken in on Thursday for the holidays. We will be going to Kincorth library on Thursday to choose books to take back to school.

Our focus for other maths work this week is still shape. We have been learning about 2D shapes, particularly pentagons, hexagons and octagons with 5, 6 and 8 sides. Next we will move on to 3D shapes.

Homework – Our spelling pattern this week is ai. Please write each word 3 times and choose 2 words and write a sentence with each. Spelling test will be on Friday this week so homework should be completed by then. Some of the children have an extra spelling challenge again in their homework book.

Topic – The children have been doing some research on Ancient Egypt on the internet. We have made a cartouche (name plate) with our name in hieroglyphs and designed a sarcophagus (stone coffin) for a mummy.

Topic – The children have been learning where Egypt is and about when the Ancient Egyptians lived. We have watched a short video on life in Ancient Egypt and have been trying to write our names in Egyptian hieroglyphs.

This is a short week. We are in school from Monday to Thursday due to the September holiday weekend on Friday 23rd and Monday 26th. Hope you all enjoy the break.

Topic – The children have decided on our topic for the rest of this term and next term. We are going to find out about Ancient Egypt and the Egyptians.
