Our focus for other maths work this week will again be addition. We will be adding 2 digit numbers up to 100.

French – This week our French will be our daily routine of greetings and calendar including day, date and month. We will also revise our numbers to 31 by playing bingo.

Homework – Our spelling pattern this week is silent w as in wrong and wrist. Please write each word 3 times and choose 2 words and write a sentence with each. Spelling test will be on Friday this week so homework should be completed by then.

For the children who have 10 words, the first two are words which can be sounded out, with the rest of the words containing our pattern.

This week the children also have a homework challenge to prepare a short talk over the next two weeks. All the information is in the homework sheet.

Topic – We have now read up to chapter 13 of our book Charlotte’s Web. The children are finding out about being a good friend as Charlotte is doing all she can to help save Wilbur. We have been thinking about the character’s traits and writing character descriptions.

C – Counting forwards and backwards from various 3d numbers

L –   6+8=14        5+7=12        5+8=13

–  Coin multiplication            multiply a number by 1 and by 10

C – Subtraction – 3d – 1d     347-5=342

Our focus for other maths work this week will again be addition.  We will be adding a multiple of 10 to a 2d number.  We will also be adding 9, 11, 19 and 21 to 2d numbers, the children will do this by adding 10 or 20, then adding or taking away 1.

Topic – We have now read up to chapter 12 of our book Charlotte’s Web. The children are creating posters with the pig and spider facts they have researched.  They will also create spider fact booklets containing facts about different types of spiders.

Engineer “n” Our Lives

Our last challenge was to be a civil engineer by building a den with lego. We worked in teams of 2 or 3.

Engineer “n” Our Lives

Our first workshop today was about materials and their properties. The children had to describe what they could feel in a bag so the others could guess.

Our second workshop was about agricultural engineers. The children played a game, learned a song and sequenced how the farmer grows the crops which are turned into our cereals.

Week beginning 15.5.17

Parent interviews are this week on Tuesday and Thursday. 

Your child should have received their report on Friday. Please return the sheet at the back of the report.

This week in school all classes are participating in a week long programme called Engineer “n” Our Lives themed around everyday engineering. Professional engineers will be in school to talk about their work and answer questions. The children will undertake 4 challenges set for them.

Reading – The children will get 2 new books this week on Monday and Thursday. Thursday’s book will not be read in school but can be read at home. We are going to Kincorth Library during our reading time on Thursday.

C – Addition –  2d tens number to  a 2d number       23+40

Our focus for other maths work this week will again be addition. The children are now using a jotter to record their calculations for maths. We are learning how to set out our work correctly in our jotters.

Spelling test will be on Friday this week so homework should be completed by then. Some of the children have an extra spelling challenge again in their homework book.

Topic – We have now read up to chapter 10 of our book Charlotte’s Web. The children are finding out meanings of some of the more complex words in the story. We are making a pig shaped dictionary to help us remember them. We have also researched some pig facts.
