Week beginning 6.3.17

The plans for this week are as follows:

We are continuing with our Fairyland topic and will be meeting some more exciting fairy-tale characters this week, while enjoying some time using puppets, costumes and the Playzone to act out some fairy tales.

Please continue to send in empty sweetie wrappers for our art work.

On Tuesday afternoon we will be making our monthly visit to Kincorth Library. If you are free to be an adult helper between 2pm-3pm, please let one of the class teachers know – we’d love to have you!

Reading – Your child will receive a new reading book on Monday and Wednesday. Please work with your child for a short time each night to help improve fluency and to help them recognise the words introduced in class. Thank you to the families who already do this – it makes a notable difference in class.

Common Words – have and much. Homework will be given out on Monday and should be completed for the Thursday. Please see your child’s ‘Common Word Book’ for more information.  You may have noticed a new Common Word Wall in the White jotters. We will be using this to assess the children’s recognition of the latest set of words covered in class.

Phonics and Handwriting – This week we will be reinforcing the sounds y and j, concentrating on the correct formation as we focus on formal handwriting activities in class. The homework has now changed to being a handwriting focus, but will continue to be due on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Word Making – Now that all 26 sounds have been introduced in class, we are continuing to develop the ‘Word Making’ aspect of learning. To help support your child, please try to work with them over the next week to make simple words using their letters found in the envelope at the front of their pink books.

Maths – Revision of 2D shape and introduction to 3D shape, learning about time (o’clock) and working on our CLIC Targets.

A reminder that gym day is usually a Thursday. A few children still require gym kit. Please check if you are unsure whether or not your child still has gym clothes in school.
