Week beginning 23.1.17

children

The plans for this week are as follows:

Reading – Your child will receive a new reading book on Monday and Wednesday. It would be extremely helpful if you could work with your child for a short time each night.

Common Words –  be and we.  Homework will be given out on Monday and should be completed for the Thursday. Please see your child’s ‘Common Word Book’ for more information.

Phonics and Handwriting – This week we will be reinforcing the sounds c and a, concentrating on the correct formation as we introducing handwriting activities in class. The homework will now change to being a handwriting focus, but will continue to be due on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Word Making – Now that all 26 sounds have been introduced in class, we will be developing the ‘Word Making’ aspect of learning. To help support your child, please try to work with them over the next week to make simple words using their letters found in the envelope at the front of their pink books.

Maths – Addition stories of 7 and 8 and working on our CLIC Targets.

A wee reminder that gym day is a Thursday. A few children still require gym kit. Please check if you are unsure whether or not your child still has gym clothes in school.

We are continuing with our whole school topic about Scotland. This week we will be using our own tartan designs to learn about kilts and will be making and learning more about bagpipes. We will also be discovering the Scottish tradition of a Burns Supper and will be sampling some vegetarian haggis with neeps and tatties (turnip and potatoes). Please let us know by Tuesday if you do not want your child to have the food. If you have anything Scottish at home and would be happy to share these with us for our display, please send them in.

    1. It’s great to hear that the blog is being used to share information and photos with different members of the family. We hope you enjoy seeing the latest uploads about our Scottish topic.
