On Friday we will be having a tartan day and finishing off our whole school Scotland topic with an assembly.

Reading – Your child will receive a new reading book on Monday and Wednesday. It would be extremely helpful if you could work with your child for a short time each night.

Common Words –  you and said.  Homework will be given out on Monday and should be completed for the Thursday. Please see your child’s ‘Common Word Book’ for more information.

Phonics and Handwriting – This week we will be reinforcing the sounds d and o, concentrating on the correct formation as we introducing formal handwriting activities in class. The homework will now change to being a handwriting focus, but will continue to be due on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Word Making – Now that all 26 sounds have been introduced in class, we will be developing the ‘Word Making’ aspect of learning. To help support your child, please try to work with them over the next week to make simple words using their letters found in the envelope at the front of their pink books.

Maths – Addition stories of 9 and 10 and working on our CLIC Targets.

A  reminder that gym day is a Thursday. A few children still require gym kit. Please check if you are unsure whether or not your child still has gym clothes in school.

Our Burns Supper

We had a great time on Tuesday afternoon learning about our famous Scottish Poet, Robert Burns. We made a pretend meal of haggis, neeps and tatties and then joined in with a traditional Burns Supper, listened to some Scottish music and enjoyed watching the ‘Address to the Haggis’ . We even toasted the haggis with our cartons of milk!  We were delighted to see that lots of the children tried the food and many ate up all their haggis, neeps and tatties.
