Phonics – This week we will be revisiting the last 6 sounds taught, these being c, e, h, r, m and d.  Lots of activities focussed on recognising, writing and using the sounds to make 3-letter words will be done this week. We will be doing a variety of word making activities in class and there will be a homework task stuck into the pink Home/School Book for you to work on with your child.

Maths – Revision of correct number formation 1 – 9. Counting, ordering and working with numbers to 10.

We have seen a big change in our playground with the arrival of Autumn. Using masking tape, good looking skills and teamwork, we went out to search for signs of Autumn. What a fun time we had!

This will encourage the children to blend sounds together to make simple words and help them to read short words by sounding out the letters.

Maths – Revision of number formation 1 – 9. Counting, ordering and working with numbers to 10.

Each Tuesday afternoon Room 1 and Room 2 join together to play, learn and explore together. This week we went outside to practise our sounds, names and general motor skills using chalks and water painting.

On Friday morning the children will be attending the end of term service up at the local church.

If the reading book has words please support your child to read the text. Let them try to read it independently and encourage them to point to the words as they are reading. If they are unsure, say the first sound for them, draw their attention to letters that they recognise along with the overall shape of the word, or sound it out completely if necessary. Try matching the words from their pots with the words on the page and play games like – point to the word that says…

Although it’s hard to believe, Term 1 of Primary 1 is almost complete! We wish you a lovely October break and look forward to seeing you all back ready for Term 2 on Monday 24th October.

We had a great visit to Kincorth Library with Rooms 1 and 2. The librarian read us a story and we spent some time looking at all the lovely books. We even chose our favourites and took them back with us to school.
