Aberdeen Science Centre came in to visit P1-4 to deliver Destination Space workshops. The children really enjoyed the presentation and found out some amazing facts all about space. Some even got dressed up for the occasion as you can see below.
Christmas performances
It was showtime at Scotstown School last week with the Nursery – P3 and P4 – P7 classes putting on fantastic Christmas performances. The two shows, “A Little Bird told me” and “Lights, Camel, Action!” saw each class perform to a hall full of proud mums, dads, grannies, grandas, aunties…and so on! The boys and girls showed what a hugely talented group they are. A huge thank you for everyone’s hard work and help that made this happen. Thanks to Shreya’s dad, Vijay for taking lots of photos, some of which I’ve been able to share below.
St. Andrew’s Day celebrations.
To celebrate St. Andrew’s day, everyone at Scotstown was invited to wear a touch of tartan. Well done to everyone who took part in the Scenic Scotland Challenge. A gallery of work can be enjoyed at the front of the school. Also, a big thank you to everyone who donated items for the Christmas Fayre.
Congratulations to the P4 classes for putting on a terrific performance for parents and other guests. The children and staff worked really hard and managed to treat over 80 visitors to some delicious soup and a selection of traditional Scottish songs, poems and dances. The children and the staff were very pleased with all the lovely comments they received. Thank you to everyone who donated a total amount of £73 to the children’s chosen charity of The Royal Society for Blind Children.
Christmas Card Winner
Vattenfall, the company who are responsible for the Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm, invited schools to participate in their Christmas Card design competition. We are delighted to report that Calum in P6 has been chosen as the winning entry. His design was chosen from hundreds of entries so we are very proud of him. Calum’s well deserved prize was a Kindle and the rest of the pupils all received a Vattenfall pen for taking part. Congratulations Calum.
Playground Buddies
Our P5/6 class are taking part in a new initiative entitled Playground Buddies that is being run by Sam Main, our Active Schools Co-ordinator. The boys and girls are being trained to teach other children different games that they can enjoy in the playground. They are working really hard and are looking forward to trying out their new skills next term.
Children in Need 2016
On Thursday 17th November we decided to help raise money for the BBC Children in Need appeal. We had a spotty theme for the day and Sophie, Keira, Nicole and Calum spoke really well at assembly to explain why we wanted to take part. Well done and a huge thank you to everyone who helped raise a grand total of £305.50.
World Diabetes Day
Demi and Macy in P5/6 gave a brilliant presentation to some classes all about World Diabetes Day. Demi told the classes her own story and all about what diabetes is. Well done to the girls for putting together a fantastic PowerPoint and sharing their knowledge with others.
Culture Week
Scotstown School held a very special Culture Week during the last week of the first term. Each class picked a different European country and found out lots of interesting things about other cultures and their customs. We had a whole school assembly where each class presented work and shared their new found facts with everyone. It was great to have such a multicultural theme throughout the school.
Beauty and the Beast performance
On Friday 28th October, M&M theatre performed their pantomime of “Beauty and the Beast”. All the children in P1-P7 came along and really enjoyed the performance. The group put on a fantastic show and had everyone joining in with the songs. Even the staff got involved as Mr Mundie and Mrs McKenzie had a very competitive dance off. Mr Mundie is still waiting to hear if his appeal for not winning the dance off has been upheld!
Scotstown School Open day
On Thursday 29th September we held an Open Day for visitors to come into school in the morning and afternoon. This was an opportunity to meet staff, have a look around the school and see the children hard at work. Some grown-ups were even asked to do some tricky jobs as you can see in some of the photos. The feedback about the event was very positive and this was evident from the comments given in our visitor’s book. Here are a few comments:
“I enjoyed playing games with my daughter and seeing her work on the walls. Keep up the good work Scotstown School!”
“It’s always nice seeing the children in the classrooms so you have a better idea of what they’re like day to day.”
