SEET Euroquiz

Danielle, Diana, Luke and Jack represented Scotstown in the SEET (Scottish European Education Trust) Quiz.

This an annual event in which P6 pupils from across Scotland demonstrate just how much they know about Europe and its languages.   The quiz covers a wide range of topics including history, geography, sport, culture and the European Union.   Our team did very well and they came 3rd in the Aberdeen regional heat. We would like to wish Albyn School lots of luck in the final in Edinburgh in May.

Outdoor Classroom

There was great excitement at Scotstown School this week as our new outdoor classroom was put in place. Stephen and his team from the council took in their diggers and the tree trunks to put this fantastic new area into our school grounds. The area will be used as a quiet place at break times so children can have some time to just sit and relax with their friends. Classes will also use this area for outdoor learning. Well done to Miss Hay, Mrs Miller and the Eco Committee as they helped put this great new facility in place.

Opera comes to Scotstown

The Scottish Opera Company came to Scotstown last week to perform Tam O Shanter with the P5-7 children. The staff and pupils have been working hard these last few weeks learning songs and it certainly paid off. The parents who were able to attend were treated to an excellent performance. Considering the short time frame to work with the children, the Opera team produced a brilliant piece of work that I’m sure was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Weel done, Cutty-Sark!

Maths Week

There was maths galore at Scotstown during our very successful maths week. We had Estimation Stations set up around the school, Problem Solving Challenges, Satrosphere Puzzles, Visitors coming in to talk about how important maths is in the workplace, Outdoor Maths trails and the P7 class participated in an ASG Maths morning organised by Bridge of Don Academy…and lots more. Well done to the mathematicians of the week who were awarded certificates at our special assembly. Additionally, well done to everyone who completed the Maths Homework challenge. A collection of some of the work can be seen at the front door.

Run Balmoral bursary

We have been lucky enough to receive a cheque for £135 from Run Balmoral to help with our lunchtime clubs run by our senior pupils. This money will be used to purchase gymnastic mats for our small hall so the P6 and P7 pupils can run their gymnastic, singing and dancing clubs for the infant classes. We really appreciate this kind gesture from the organisers of the Run Balmoral event that will take place on the 22nd and 23rd of April this year.dsci0579

Diving sessions…minus a pool!

The boys and girls from P2 to P6 were given some diving tips and techniques from the Aberdeen Aquatics team. The children were put through their paces and really enjoyed this different experience. Some of the children did so well they have been asked to attend follow up sessions at the Aquatics Centre at the Sports Village. A letter has been sent home with the children who were selected. Well done to everyone who took part.

OGTC competition

Congratulations to Connor Rattray in P7 who was awarded overall 2nd place out of 75 entries in the OGTC design competition.  Connor was joined by Jake Cocker and Sarah Gillies as chosen finalists and were invited along to the final judging that was led by Sir Ian Wood. Connor was awarded a trophy and received a cheque for the school to the value of £200. A huge congratulations to Connor, Jake and Sarah who all spoke very well to the judging panel and were a real credit to the school. We are very proud of them.
