Our last full day up here in Kincraig…..awwwww! We headed off on the buses to the River Spey and it lived up to its reputation as being the fastest flowing river in Scotland as we flew down in our rafts. Some ended up in the river, some on purpose, others by accident and some who were given a little nudge! After we got home and dried off we headed off to Loch Insh and got wet again! This time we were on the stand up paddle boards and yet again some ended up in the loch. As this was our last evening we were treated to Hot Chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows. The instructors also generously supplied a cake and helped sing a rendition of Happy Birthday to Zoe who turns 12 tomorrow. A fantastic last day to round off a brilliant week. See you all tomorrow!
Day 3 on Loch Insh
The sun finally appeared up here at Kincraig today and we made the most of it, canoeing and kayaking in Loch Insh. We also said goodbye and thank you to Mrs Miller for all her help this week and we welcomed Ms Waters who joined us later in the day. The children did really well in their canoes and kayaks with almost everyone managing not to fall in (Conall had a little dip!). We had some games in the evening that involved lots of running around the beautiful countryside beside Loch Insh. We are off to the River Spey tomorrow for White Water Rafting. Hope the water is warmer than Bridge of Don swimming pool as quite a few may end up in it!
A very wet day 2
Waterproofs and wetsuits were the essentials for day 2 of our week in Kincraig. We all headed to Truim Falls in the pouring rain but did that stop us from having fun?..no chance! One group headed to the zip line across the gorge and then abseiled down the cliff face while the other group went gorge walking, then swapped over. (Team No Fear have their game faces on!) There were some amazing feats of bravery and lots of quotes like “I can’t believe I just did that!”After a very wet day we decided to have a more relaxed and drier evening with a room challenge. Winners of the quiz/aeroplane challenge will be announced on Friday. Kayaking, canoeing and hopefully a little bit of sunshine tomorrow.
P7 trip – we’ve arrived!
As the sun sets in Kincraig we are all just finishing our hot drinks and getting ready for our first night at the Cairngorm Centre. We have had a great first day. After a quick pit stop in Aberlour we soon arrived at our destination with the sun shining…a bit. We met Emmy and Jim our team leaders and played some team games and went for a walk round Loch Insh. In the evening we took on the Nightline challenge and as you can see from the photos we had a ball. Gorge walking and abseiling tomorrow!
Science Fair 2017
A huge well done to all the pupils in Miss Hay’s class as they have been working very hard on their projects as part of our Science Fair. The quality of the work was of a very high standard and Mr Mundie had an extremely difficult job choosing two finalists for the city wide Fair next week. It was so close, he was even announcing wrong winners!! Congratulations to eventual finalists Ciaran and Calum for their ArtBot entry and to Ada, Hannah and Eishah for their entry on Silly Putty. Good luck to the two groups who will represent Scotstown at the city wide Intertek Science Fair at the Biodiversity Centre on Monday.
Scotstown Community Health Fayre
Last week we held a very successful Community Health Fayre during one of our Parent Evenings. We invited lots of agencies, clubs and organisations that have community links with the school to come in and share information with parents. This was a great opportunity for families to find out about what goes on in the school community. A huge thanks to all the stallholders who came in and also to everyone who contributed to our UNICEF Day for Change collection.
RGU student sessions
3 RGU students will be delivering various coaching sessions to some classes over the next few weeks. The first session was basketball and as you can see every class really enjoyed their session. I think Thom was quite happy with the basket he scored…Alan not so much. The students will also concentrate on rugby, hockey and nutrition.
Bike Breakfast P1-3
We had our very first Bike Breakfast recently with the P1-3 children travelling to school on their bikes and scooters, then coming in to the hall for their breakfast. Rachael Sparrow from Sustrans, who has been working with the Pupil Council on different ideas, kindly organised and helped with this event. Hopefully this will encourage more people to cycle or scoot safely to school. Callum the janitor is still waiting for his bacon softie!!!
Red Nose Day celebrations
At the end of last term we had good fun celebrating Red Nose Day. Lots of people dressed in red for the day, the children took part in a red nose hunt around the school and we raised lots of money for a very worthwhile charity. Our final total was £640, which is a brilliant effort. Well done and thank you to everyone who supported our event.
Well done Alix
Well done to Alix P.5, who had 7 inches cut off her hair over the Easter holidays to support the charity “Little Princess Trust”. Alix had a collection box in school and told everyone at an assembly what she was doing. She raised a fantastic £500 as well as donating her hair that will help provide wigs and hair pieces for children who suffer hair loss due to cancer treatment. What a great achievement!
