To celebrate the Bard’s birthday we had a whole school assembly where each class had the opportunity to share their work with the rest of the school. We had some fantastic poems, some sensational songs and lots of different tartans on display. Some classes decided to share some of their favourite Doric words too. Fit a rare time we a’ hid!!
Christmas Card winner
Congratulations to Ta Chuenkingkaew in P6/7 who was the winner of the Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm Christmas Card competition. Ta’s design was chosen ahead of lots of entries by staff from Vattenfall, the Wind Farm Company. Ta’s idea will be used as the official design for Vattenfall’s Christmas Cards and this will be sent out across Scotland, even to the First Minister.
Ta was presented with his prize, a Kindle, at assembly by Natalie Ghazi, the Local Liaison Officer for the Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm. Well done Ta.
Strictly Come Scotstown
On Friday 1st December we held our very own sponsored danceathon “Strictly Come Scotstown”. This school fundraiser had everyone at the school dancing at some point in the day from 9am till 3.15pm.
We wanted to do something a little bit different to raise money for school resources but also to have a bit of fun and keep healthy too! There was a lot of interest outwith school as we had a live broadcast on Original 106 and there was also an article published in the Evening Express.
Every class had a session with Mr Mundie, dancing to some classics like Agadoo, The Birdie Song and The Macarena to name a few. We also had DJ Miss Ross on the decks at breaktimes so the children could carry on dancing in the playground. It’s safe to say, neither will be pursuing a career change soon! A huge thank you to Dance Instructor Hayley Brown and Ballet Teacher Miss Laura for coming in to work with classes too.
Thank you to everyone for sponsoring our dancers and although we don’t have a final total yet, the amount that has come in already shows how generous people have been. Finally, well done to all the dancers and if he had been here, it would’ve been a 10 from Len.
Dick Whittington visits Scotstown
We welcomed M&M Theatre Productions this week and were treated to a terrific performance of Dick Whittington. There were lots of songs, dances and giggles which the children really enjoyed. Some of the staff were even serenaded by some of the baddies which they also enjoyed…Oh no they didn’t…oh yes they did!
Culture Week at Scotstown
The children at Scotstown have been travelling all around Asia this week as part of our Culture Week celebrations…well nearly. Each class have been learning about the culture of a specific country from Asia and there has been lots of amazing things going on around the school. We had a whole school assembly today to let everyone share what they have been doing and all the facts they have found out.
Meet the Teacher Open day
On Thursday 5th October, we held our Meet the Teacher Open day at Scotstown and it was a great success. We welcomed lots of visitors and our P7 pupils did a fantastic job helping people find their way around the school. The staff and pupils had put lots of effort into displaying work around the school and from the really nice comments in our visitor’s book, the hard work paid off. Thank you to all our visitors for taking the time to come in and visit. Here are some snapshots and comments from the day…
Really nice to see my child’s work in a more relaxed way. Nice of the older children to show us where to go too.
Great to see the setting my child talks about everyday and all the fun and educational activities they have been up to. Thanks
Great visit to the class. Lots of interesting artwork to look at. Nice to see everyone working hard.
Very nice school. Friendly atmosphere and helpful teachers and pupils.
Fantastic to see the classes and all the wonderful artwork.Â
It was lovely to see the children proudly sharing their achievements and hard work.
Maths Week at Scotstown
As part of National Maths Week we organised a range of maths activities throughout the school to help everyone see maths positively and experience maths in exciting new ways. We set up estimation stations for all the children to participate in. This was a very successful initiative and as you can see from the photos, got the children thinking about different number problems but also having good fun. Some classes explored maths through digital learning and participated in the Sumdog online maths game competition. There were also classes who went on a maths trail around the school. We celebrated maths at our assembly where we looked at having a positive attitude to maths and how maths can help us with lots of other skills.
Farewell and good luck P7
We bid farewell to our P7 class of 2017 today. Jumpers were signed, the conga was in full flow and there were a few tears shed at the end of the day. Good luck to all our P7 pupils as they set off on their next adventure to Secondary and good luck to all our other school leavers who are moving to other schools.
Bike Roadshow
Our playground looked a bit different today as Adventure Aberdeen set up a Bike Roadshow that was enjoyed by the P3 – P7 classes. There was a wide variety of bikes and the children certainly had fun testing them all out, although the Penny Farthing nearly put Mr Mundie over the fence! Thanks to Rachel from Sustrans for helping organise this. Hopefully this will encourage more people to get on their bikes or scooters and cycle safely over the summer.
Door cover design competition
As part of Scotstown School’s Literacy Week each class designed a new door cover for their classroom to reflect the story they had focused on. Well done to everyone who contributed such great ideas and helped with the design. Who do you think should win the Class Door design competition?
