Our Health Week this year was a record breaker! Not only did the children get to experience lots of health related activities but we raised a record amount of money for a very worthwhile charity. A huge thank you to everyone who helped and made our Health Week such a success!

Gilchrist presentation

The P7 and P6/7 classes were invited to take part in an Art competition by Gilchrist Funeral Directors on Ellon Road. The staff were very impressed with the quality of artwork and Abigail in P6/7 was chosen as the overall winner. Abigail’s fantastic picture of the Brig O’Balgownie is now proudly displayed in their premises. Abigail was awarded with gift vouchers and the school was very generously presented with a cheque for £200 from Gilchrist’s to spend on school resources. A huge thank you to all the staff at Gilchrist.

Health and Wellbeing Excellence award

We have recently been awarded 2 Health Promoting Schools Excellence awards by Aberdeen City Council. These were awarded for the support given to younger pupils by the older pupils through various initiatives like lunchtime buddies, break time buddies and clubs run by P6 and P7 pupils. The assessors who came to visit the school were so impressed with the Dance club (pictured above), they presented a second excellence award to the group. We are obviously delighted with our awards and very proud of the children. Well done to everyone involved.

Och Factor 2015

blog4 SAM_0990 SAM_1009 SAM_1001On Friday 30th January we celebrated the life and work of Rabbie Burns by hosting our very own “Och Factor”. The response was fantastic and the whole school was treated to various Scottish songs, poems and stories from each class from Nursery to P7. Well done to everyone who took part.

Anthony Nolan Trust Superheroes

The Pupil Council recently led and presented information at assembly all about The Anthony Nolan Trust. This charity was suggested to us by one of our parents, Mr Moir. The Pupil Council set everyone a challenge to design their very own superhero. Well done to all the winners who received their prizes this week. A huge thank you to the Pupil Council and to everyone who participated as we managed to raise £200 for such a worthwhile charity.

Homestart collection

Nicola and Irene from Homestart came into the school to receive a cheque from the Health and Wellbeing committee. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the total of £197.22 during our Health Week. The ladies were very appreciative of the money we all managed to raise for such a worthwhile charity.

SSPCA visits Scotstown

This week we have all had a session with Kenneth from the SSPCA! He taught us all lots of different things about protecting animals.  He went to all classes from P4-7 and did a special assembly with P1-3! We scored 4 out  of 6 in his quiz and each got a magnet! Well done P1-3,

Health Week 2014

This year’s Health Week was a huge success. We had Masterchef Monday where each class took part in the Great Scotstown Bake Off. Each class had a fruit or vegetable as their main ingredient. Our lucky judges had the job of tasting all of the fantastic creations…poor them! On Trainers Tuesday we ran a grand total of 238 miles! Congratulations to P5 who earned the title Healthiest class on Wellbeing Wednesday. We finished the week with Thirsty Work Thursday and Feel Good Friday. Our Health Committee chose Home Start as the charity for the collection. We raised £197.22 for this very worthwhile local charity aimed at supporting families across Aberdeen.
