Home-Start mascot competition

This month’s homework challenge is a city wide competition organised by Home-Start, a charity we have supported in the past.

Can you help Home-Start Aberdeen’s new mascot find his – or her – perfect name? Each class will vote on their favourite and enter a class name for the competition.

Class entries have to be in by Wednesday 18th May.

The May Mile at Scotstown

Over the month of May each class will participate in a daily mile. A course has been marked out within the school grounds and at some point each day all classes will have a go at running/walking the distance. We are taking on this challenge as research shows this type of daily exercise not only improves fitness, but also concentration. Fingers crossed for better weather!

Archie in Africa Day

On Thursday 31st March we celebrated Archie in Africa day. There were some spectacular outfits showing off the red, yellow and black colours of the Ugandan flag and some even more spectacular hairstyles. Thank you to everyone who supported this very worthwhile charity. We raised £476.25 and this will be put towards buying equipment for a children’s hospital in Uganda.DSCI0310

Successful Science Week

We held a very successful Science Week just before the Easter break with lots of brilliant science happening around the school. There were lots of experiments and investigations going on in classes, workshops from TechFest, BP and Aberdeen University and there was the crime of the century involving the disappearance of Lenny the Lion…or so we thought. The children had great fun using their scientific skills in trying to work out where Lenny had got to. Clues were found, suspects were named but eventually Lenny confessed…it was all an April Fools’ Day trick. What a rascal!DSCI0417

Rotary Quiz Champions!

Congratulations to Wayne, Harry, Maciej, Nathan and Adam, our P7 Quiz Team. The boys performed brilliantly on the night and won the Bridge of Don section of the Rotary Quiz at Oldmachar Academy. The boys led from the first round and didn’t look back. A huge well done to the team and I’m sure everyone will wish them continued success when they take part in the next round in June.DSCI0323

University Maths Challenge

A group of our P7 pupils attended Aberdeen University’s annual Maths Challenge, where children across the city compete against each other testing their mathematical knowledge and skills. Well done to Abigail, Tor and Matthew who did very well in the challenges and designed this superb poster. DSCI0319

Race For Life Cheque Presentation

Fiona Harvey, the Local Fundraising Manager for Cancer Research UK, came along to our assembly today to receive a cheque for £4205 that we raised from our Race For Life in October. Fiona spoke to the children about how much this money would help and the type of things the money would be used for. Skye and her mum, Jane had this great idea for the school to get involved and raise some money for this worthwhile cause that touches so many people. Little did we know it would result in this amazing total. Thank you once again for everyone who contributed.DSCI0308

Cinema trip

lRTxKhKHz5OmvJBZQvCbFH6dNS6-580x830On Friday 11th December, the P1 to P7 classes went on a cinema trip to see the film “Nativity 3”. After having such a busy week with our Christmas performances it was great to go along, as a school, and enjoy this feel good festive film. A huge thank you to the Parent Council who funded the trip this year.

Fit Like Friday

Scotstown School had a very Scottish feel about it last week as we celebrated the run up to St Andrew’s Day with Fit Like Friday. Lots of children and staff made a real effort wearing a touch of tartan. We had an assembly about St Andrew and found out about some phrases particular to the North East of Scotland. A huge thank you to everyone who donated an item for the Christmas Fayre that is taking place this Saturday, the 5th of December 1-3pm.
