Dunoon Grammar School Pupils Go for Gold!

On Wednesday, 12 September 2012, Dunoon Grammar School played host to its very own Olympic Games. The Games were officially opened by a performance from Dunoon Grammar School Pipe Band. Then the Games began. Around one hundred pupils took part in the 7 events that were on offer. These events were the 90m, 200m, 800m, Shot Put, Long Jump, Triple Jump and High Jump.

Originally planned to take place in June, the Games were held in order to raise awareness of the Olympics, their history and their values. It also allowed the competitive edge of the new house system to come out and gave everyone involved a fun filled afternoon.

Dunoon Grammar School Stars Shine for Scotland

Pupils from Dunoon Grammar School again played a key role at a significant International Reception hosted by Education Scotland at the City Chambers, Glasgow last week.  The Dunoon Grammar School Pipe Band and Highland Dancers entertained a distinguished audience consisting of educationalists from across the globe.

DGS CLASS COMICS RAISE A LAUGH AT THE EDINBURGH FRINGE

Every teacher in the country has a story concerning the class comic, but staff at Dunoon Grammar School can now boast about the entire class of comics who took the Edinburgh Fringe Festival by storm.

Fifteen pupils from the school sacrificed the final day of their summer holidays to attend a comedy workshop at the amazing BBC venue at the Edinburgh Festival on Tuesday, 14 August.

DGS Art Exhibition at Chatters Restaurant, Dunoon

Dunoon Grammar’s Art Department are pleased to present the first summer exhibition of students’ work at Chatters Restaurant, Dunoon running from mid June till August.

The exhibition comprises of work by S2 (ceramic tiles), Intermediate and Higher pupils, with ages ranging from 13 years upwards. The main presentation of work, including jewellery is pieces produced by students as part of their final folio submission for both expressive and design practical activities, reflecting the high standard attained by pupils at the school. DUNOON GRAMMAR SCHOOL short listed for prestigious national award.

Pupils at Dunoon Grammar School have been celebrating news that a short film telling the story of a former pupil has been selected as finalist for Poppy Scotland’s Moving Stories competition.

The pupils now need your vote!

The film tells the tragic story of former Dunoon Grammar pupil Walter Sinclair Smith, who was killed during the iconic Christmas Day Truce of 1914 and is one of four films now subject to a public vote to decide the overall winner of the competition which is being run to mark the 90th anniversary of Poppy Scotland.
