Kilchrenan Cleans Up!

Pupils from Kilchrenan Primary joined forces with an environmental team from The Blackwell Group, to give a Spring Clean to the village.

The building of a major windfarm on hills near the school has meant an increase of heavy traffic on the local single track roads. So when the headteacher, Mr Graham Dickie, approached the engineering company, Blackwells, to warn them about the children’s litter-pick, they offered to lend a hand.
The children discussed and completed the Risk Assessment, agreeing the steps they needed to reduce the risks they faced, and the risk they might pose to others. Then with the three men, wheelbarrows, black bags and, more importantly for the pupils, a van with flashing light they set out to clean up!

Several filled bags and an hour later, all was tidy again. However, all the children were disappointed at the rubbish left by some adults. Laybys and passing places were the home to lager, beer and cider cans, fast food boxes, sweet packets, and the ocassional misplaced road sign! But, no more!
