Primary 6 pupils at Rhu had a prickly meal when they took part in a Stone Age food sampling day.

Rhu nettle soup 2The class was involved in preparing the prehistoric feast and enjoyed tucking into their home made meal of nettle and wild garlic soup and stewed rhubarb.

The class has been learning about life in the Stone Age. They were able to get first hand experience of how people would have foraged for food and eaten items from the woods, that today we think of as weeds.

Primary 6 teacher, Mrs Dye, spent her weekend foraging for nettles and wild garlic in the local woodland and the children were able to help prepare the meal.

They had a positive reaction to the unusual soup with most eager pupils returning for seconds and thirds!
