P4 Book Launch

Primary 4 held a special Book Launch event for their book “From Holyrood to Bollywood and Back” last week. They wrote this book in partnership with The Universal School in Mumbai and author Mary Turner Thomson. The book contains two stories, one written in Scotland about two Indian children getting lost and one written in India about two Scottish children going missing in Mumbai. The book was written, illustrated and edited by pupils with help from their teachers and Mary, the author. Family and friends, plus special guests Mrs Black, Mr Taylor, Mary (author) and Kirtida and Suprabha (visiting staff from Mumbai), were treated to singing, dancing and refreshments. There was also a presentation on how the book was made and speeches. The published book was revealed and went on sale for £5 a copy. The book will be available to order at the School Fayre and in school next week.

The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch

IMG_0404 IMG_0405In Primary 2 and Primary 2/1 we have enjoyed learning more about lighthouses this week.  We have thought a lot about the purpose and importance of a lighthouse as well as the structure and shape.  Using our creative skills we used clay to mould our own individual lighthouse referring to our own design.  We had great fun getting messy and creative and cannot wait to put the final touches to our lighthouse models!

We were also set a challenge of creating one of the key characters in the story.  The seagulls are funny and have a big role in the story.  We were provided with some materials and told to make a seagull using only what was on the table. Each seagull was to be unique and its wings had to be able to move.  We showed great determination and problem solving skills in this activity and of course the challenge was completed successfully!

Our favourite mini beasts

During our literacy time we have all been thinking about our favourite mini beasts. We closed our eyes to think carefully about the characteristics of our creatures. Some of us thought of worms, butterflies, centipedes, spiders and ladybirds. We drew them onto a leaf and told our key worker some describing words for our mini beast. We thought of lots of WOW words!

French in the nursery

We have been lucky to have our second French lesson with our special French visitor. We had great fun learning how to say our names whilst playing with the animal puppets. We also learned the names for colours, we had to listen for the colour and run to find the correct colour piece of the jigsaw. We also played ten pin bowling whilst learning about numbers!

Bonjour from Primary 2 and Primary 2/1!

IMG_0394 IMG_0392Mr McEvoy returned to Primary 2 and Primary 2/1 today with a special bag of puppets.  The puppets were different animals and we learned their names in French.  One of the puppets wasn’t feeling very well so we had to be a good doctor and help the dog (chien) puppet by putting a plaster over its sore body part.  This helped us to refresh what we had learned before Easter in our key phrases and the body.

We would to thank Mr McEvoy for these fun and engaging lessons!

Primary 5 Tennis

Primary 5 are starting a block of tennis lessons with a coach called Eoin Swan. The children are really looking forward to tackling a new sport. They will require an outdoor P.E. kit consisting of joggers or leggings, a t-shirt, a sweatshirt and a pair of outdoor trainers. Primary 5b will be doing tennis on a Thursday and Primary 5a on a Friday.

P2 Fingerprint Art!

P2 worked hard today in their first art session with Miss Notman! We looked at the artwork of Ed Emberley and we were inspired to create our own ‘fingerprint zoo’. We used paint for the fingerprints and then added detail with a black pen. It was important for us to learn that our hands are an important tool in art, too! We produced very creative and vibrant work today!
