P4 and The Big 5
We have been learning about Scotland’s Big 5 native animals: the Harbour Seal, the Golden Eagle, the Red Squirrel, the Red Deer and the Otter. We worked in groups to research the animals and to make big pictures of them using collage.
P4 Trout Project
We are delighted to announce that the eggs have hatched and the alevins (baby trout) are doing well. We have to keep changing the ice bottles in the tank to make sure the water is cold enough for them. Why don’t you pop in to see them some time? (Here are some before and after photos.)
Trout Eggs Arrive in P4
SSPCA Visit
The SSPCA (Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) have been in to see all our classes this week. They have been able to tell us about all the good work they carry out and what to do if we come across injured animals. We carried out a variety of actiities with them to learn and they were also able to answer many of the hundreds of questions that the children had for them.
Fairtrade Recipe Book
Thanks to all who bought our Fairtrade recipe book and supported Fairtrade and Action Aid. Thank you also to all who contributed to the production of the book. We have sold lots of copies and raised £152 for Action Aid’s Child Sponsorship programme. Don’t worry if you forgot to order a copy – we will continue to take orders for the book after the holidays. Just bring in an envelope containing payment (£3 per copy) and a note with how many copies are required. Our partner school, The Universal School in Mumbai, will also be selling the book in their school.
Happy Birthday UNCRC from P4!
P4 have been thinking about the UNCRC as it celebrates 25 years. We have been discussing the “Brightest Right in our Life” and we have worked with our friends to make posters to show these rights.
The Williamston Waves crew are feeling festive!
The Williamston Waves crew are very excited about their final broadcast of 2014! Of course it is going to be a Christmas extravaganza! We would love to know what each class’ favourite Christmas song is so the top 3 crew can play these during the broadcast on Friday. Tune in on Friday for some festive cheer!
JRSO News
The Junior Road Safety Officers, Leya Crawford, Jamie Meldrum and Alix Crawford have had a busy few weeks. They attended their first ever Induction Day at Broxburn Primary School where they got lots of advice on how to be a successful JRSO and some practical tips on organising the JRSO noticeboard in school. They have also had the difficult task of judging the many entries to the Road Safety Week competition. This year the focus was Look Out For Each Other. The standard of work is extremely high and winners and runners up will be announced soon.
Williamston Waves first broadcast!
The new Williamston Waves crew delivered their first broadcast to the whole school on Friday! This was a great opportunity for the crew to introduce themselves and share their vision for Williamston Waves. Keep your eyes open and ears listening to find out more about what the crew are getting up to. We hope all classes will tune in to our broadcast every Friday after break time.
