Mrs Thomson (drama) and Ms MacDonald (music) have been helping us lots. Next on the list will be costumes, props and the programme….

The show will be on Monday 22nd June and there will be two performances (morning and evening). Letters about ticket orders were sent home today. Please place orders by Monday 8th June 2015. Thanks!

P5 La Cucaracha!

Musical Marvels in Primary 4!

In Primary 4 we have been lucky enough to have NYCOS music workshops with Mrs Poynter this term. We have been learning about keeping a steady beat, simple rhythms and pitch, including the pentatonic scale. We have been making hand signs as we sing and learning to read music. There has been lots of fun and games along the way and we have really enjoyed our music lessons each week. Thank you Mrs Poynter!

Saxophone superstar!

Our young saxophonists enjoyed a once in a lifetime opportunity on Thursday 5th February, where they got to meet international jazz musician, recording artist and educator Eric Marienthal at Howden Park Centre.  Eric records CDs with his own band, has played with the Chick Corea Electric Band and is currently lead Alto Saxophonist with the Gordon Goodwin Big Phat Band.  He is also the sound behind Lisa Simpson on the cartoon “The Simpsons”, and told us all about the process of recording the music for the cartoon.  He played for us, which was very impressive, talked to us about his career and answered questions.  We found out that the first tune he ever learned to play was “The Pink Panther”!  It was a real treat and an exciting experience.

Scottish Week in Nursery

We have been learning some great Scottish songs – ‘The Shoogly Woogly’ which would be the Hokey Cokey and ‘Heid, shouders, knaps and taes’ which is head, shoulders, knees and toes. Our favourite word was ‘lugs’. We have also read some lovely Scottish stories from the Hairy Maclary, Katie Morag and Hamish McHaggis series. By the end of the week many children could talk about the Scottish flag, speak some Scots, identify some iconic Scottish objects and know who Robert Burns was.

The Angels Cried – Alicia MacKay and Amy Anderson

This is a recording of Alicia singing her own cover of ‘The Angels Cried’ by Alan Jackson and Alison Krauss. Alicia had never actually heard the original of this song until after she had sang her own version. The guitar is played by Amy Anderson who has only been playing the guitar for about a year. It was one of many fantastic performances at our Christmas Concert. Enjoy.

P6 and 7 Carol Concert

On Thursday the 18th of December a school carol concert took place at Williamston Primary School. Lots of music was played by our wind band. They played six songs in total and there were a few solos and duets. The choir sang beautifully just like angels! There were two trios and a duet from P7 and a song by the P6 girls. The boys from both year groups sang Walking in the Air and it was fantastic!!! The P7 woodwind girls played two wonderful songs together and one song in their instrumental groups. A HUGE thanks to Mrs Poynter, Mrs Kelly and Mrs Annan for taking time to teach all these festive songs.
