Woodwind Success!

Mrs Kelly has just this very second (at half past twelve on the last day of term!) received an email from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music Music Medals team… Congratulations to all P7 Woodwind – Skye, Ella, Ellie, Emily, Katie, Leah and Rachel who have all PASSED their Bronze Music Medal.  Results are in the post and will be waiting for you at JYHS in August.  Well done girls!

Saxophone superstar!

Our young saxophonists enjoyed a once in a lifetime opportunity on Thursday 5th February, where they got to meet international jazz musician, recording artist and educator Eric Marienthal at Howden Park Centre.  Eric records CDs with his own band, has played with the Chick Corea Electric Band and is currently lead Alto Saxophonist with the Gordon Goodwin Big Phat Band.  He is also the sound behind Lisa Simpson on the cartoon “The Simpsons”, and told us all about the process of recording the music for the cartoon.  He played for us, which was very impressive, talked to us about his career and answered questions.  We found out that the first tune he ever learned to play was “The Pink Panther”!  It was a real treat and an exciting experience.

P6 and 7 Carol Concert

On Thursday the 18th of December a school carol concert took place at Williamston Primary School. Lots of music was played by our wind band. They played six songs in total and there were a few solos and duets. The choir sang beautifully just like angels! There were two trios and a duet from P7 and a song by the P6 girls. The boys from both year groups sang Walking in the Air and it was fantastic!!! The P7 woodwind girls played two wonderful songs together and one song in their instrumental groups. A HUGE thanks to Mrs Poynter, Mrs Kelly and Mrs Annan for taking time to teach all these festive songs.
