Book Week Scotland 2015

We celebrated Book Week Scotland last week. The Library After-School Club organised lots of exciting activities for the whole school.

The three books shortlisted books for the Scottish Children’s Book Awards were read over the tannoy by Mrs Hollands, Mr Taylor and Mrs McKenzie. They did an amazing job! We voted for our favourite and the winner will be announced shortly.

Teachers swapped classes and read from their favourite books and we took part in paired reading where the upper classes read to the infant classes. Members of the Library After-School Club ran a “Cover Book Quiz”. They read the opening paragraph from a selection of books and we had to identify the book, it was quite tricky!

To launch the new comic book section of the library we asked pupils to design and create a page of a comic. The After-School Club now have the unenviable task of choosing the winners!

Judo in Primary 2 and Primary 2/1.

The boys and girls in Primary 2 and Primary 2/1 were very lucky to have the opportunity to participate in a judo taster session this morning.  Magic Marv (the instructor) showed and taught the boys and girls some basic moves required in the art of judo.  They were able to use their skills they had learned in other areas of PE; using their eyes to move around the mat safely and fast feet!  They had lots of fun and were very keen to find out about the judo club.

This week, letters will be issued inviting the boys and girls to attend this fun club.

Williamston waves update!

Hello everyone Williamston Waves crew here! This year we have been up to lots of things. We have had many themed weeks like Comic Relief and Fairtrade fortnight. We love telling our viewers our top three things of the week, news and weather, Williamston achievements, sports and world news. Unfortunately we will not be on this week but we will be back on after the Easter break. There will be more laughs more jokes and even more fun. Oh and keep your eyes open for some competitions! Our notice board is outside the lunch hall.

Netball Festival

Ten pupils from Primary 6 and 7 had the chance to participate in the second netball festival of the school year last week. This was held in our school hall with four other schools from around Livingston taking part. It was a great experience for pupils to gain skills and knowledge about netball, meet new friends from other schools and have fun! Williamston worked well as a team and came third in the competition! Well done! We look forward to the third and final netball festival of the year in June.

Film Club

Film Club is back! The new group met for the first time this week and we got to know each other better by sharing the types of films we like to watch and our favourite film. We all have different tastes! The first film we are watching this term is The Borrowers and we will be writing reviews soon so we will let you know our thoughts!

Arts and Craft after school club.

IMG_0235Today in our arts and craft after school club we made beautiful rainbow wind chimes.  We painted our wind chimes and even had a go of mixing colours together to make green and red before gluing tissue paper on to create our chimes.  I’m sure you will agree that these are very pretty and will be beautiful hanging at our windows for the spring breeze, which will arrive soon we hope!IMG_0232

P5/6 Art After School Club

The Thursday art after school club have enjoyed looking at the work of Chuck Close. He uses his hands to create large paintings! We used only our fingers and cotton buds to create the portrait with the black paint, then used vibrant oil pastels for the background. We loved the results and also learned how to draw a face using the correct proportions! So, it just goes to show that you dont’ always need to think ‘paintbrush’ when you get the paints out!
