What’s happening in P3

Wedding fever has come to primary three!  We have been very busy writing invitations, creating orders of service, making favours and flowers and writing speeches.  Darren came in to visit us this week and told us all about Christian weddings.  Tomorrow we are creating wedding cakes as part of a P3 challenge, with the winning cake being the centrepiece at our wedding reception.  We will be undertaking final preparations over the next few days, ready for our wedding ceremony and reception on Wednesday next week.

We have been very lucky to have a visiting teacher in class for the past few weeks.  Miss Hao, who is based in James Young High School, has been teaching us about Chinese culture, language and characters.  We found it quite tricky to speak Mandarin but enjoyed the experience.

We had great fun at sports day yesterday!  We played a variety of sports challenges, took a shot at kurling and hoopla and ran our socks off in different races.  We were all very tired but had lots of fun.  Our teachers thought we showed wonderful sportsmanship and all tried really hard.  A big thank you to our primary 7 helpers, who demonstrated each sports challenge station and kept scores for us.

P3a’s trip to Lowport!

This week it was our turn to visit and stay over at Lowport, and we’re very pleased to tell everyone that we had lots and lots of fun and managed to come home safe and sound.

We left for Lowport on Wednesday and after a bus ride (complete with a tour guide in the form of Mr Brice) and a quick check of our rooms, we were off to Linlithgow Palace.  We were very lucky to have some very knowledgeable children from the local Primary school who gave us a tour around the palace.  We then came back to Lowport, unpacked our bags and then went out on to the Peel to play games before dinner.

We were very well fed at dinner time and managed to have enough energy to play outside on the Peel again!  Mr Brice had some wonderful games for us to play and tired us all out.  Then it was back to the centre for pyjammas, supper and a DVD before bed.

We got up at 7.30am yesterday (although some of us had already been awake for a while!  We must have been excited for the day ahead) and after packing up our rooms and having a huge breakfast (including bacon rolls!) we set off for Linlithgow Canal.  We had a lovely trip on a canal boat and then a look around the little canal centre museum.  We learned lots about canals and now understand the difference between a canal and a river.

At 1.00pm we got back on the bus and headed for Beecraigs.  We all managed to get to the top of Cockleroy (although some of us required some extra encouragement!) where we were treated to a super view – we could see the Forth Bridges and Linlithgow Palace where we had been the day before!

Then we played in Beecraigs park for a while before getting the bus back to school.  Some of us were so tired, we fell asleep on the bus back.  Mr Brice was fast asleep in the front passenger seat!  We were very happy to see our families waiting to collect us.

We had the best time at Lowport and will remember it for a long time!  We will put some photos of our trip up soon!

Responsibility in P3a

At assembly this morning, we taught the nursery children, P1s, 2s and 3s all about the value of RESPONSIBILITY.

We have spent the last couple of weeks learning all about responsibility and working hard to share our learning with the rest of the infant classes.

We showed pictures we had drawn of us being responsible at home, showed photographs of us being responsible in school, sang a song and performed a drama of the story of The Good Samaritan.

Miss Robertson and other teachers around the school have complimented us for doing such a good job and we’re very proud that we taught everyone all about our Value of the month.

Researching in P3

As part of our Romans topic, we have been working in groups to research different aspects of Roman life.  The “mini topics” that we were looking into were food and drink, clothes, houses, school, buildings, leisure, Gods and Goddesses and inventions.

We used our non-fiction reading skills to look in books to find interesting facts and then practiced note-taking by writing down the information we found.  Then we used these notes to make our own non-fiction posters, leaflets and booklets to share the information with everyone else.  We then presented our information to our classmates – we were the teachers!

We really enjoyed being responsible for our own learning and sharing what we discovered with everyone.  This was a super way to finish our topic on Romans.

Primary 3a research ladybirds

As part of eco-week last week, every class chose an animal that could be found in Scotland to research and put together a page for a book on Scottish wildlife.  In P3a we had the ladybird and used our researching skills to find out some interesting facts about these little beetles.  As a whole class, we then put together a fact-file page to be included in the books we are making – one of which is going to our partner school in Mumbai.  Here is our fact file page on the ladyird

We have also been set a challenge by Mr Brice to make a ladybird house to put out into our playground to see if we can find any ladybirds at school.  Watch this space for the final product!

Judo in Primary 3

We had fabulous fun in Primary 3 on Monday morning when we went to a Judo session in the big hall with Marvellous Marv.  Marv played some super games with us where we began to learn some of the basics in Judo, such as trying to roll our partner off their knees and trying to stop our partner rolling us over!

Marv told us that Judo is only to be done in classes where it is safe and will soon be bringing invitations to school to tell us all about classes in Livingston.
