How Can We Classify Animals? - Twinkl Homework Help - Twinkl

This week we started to learn about animal classifications.  Animals are divided into two main groups – animals that have a backbone are called vertebrates and animals that don’t have a backbone are called invertebrates.  We found out about the six animal groups: mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, insects and amphibians and identified what the animals in each group have in common.

Karlie – Amphibians live on land and water.

Jessica – Fish have fins to move around and gills to breathe.

Damon – Humans are mammals.

Bella – Birds have got feathers, wings and a beak.  Some birds are really big and some are small.

Ellie – Reptiles have dry skin and scales and they can lay eggs too.

Cody – I liked sorting the animals.

Alexander – Frogs and toads are amphibians.

A Wee Week O’ Burns

Another successful and entertaining week in Ness Class. We had an amazing breakthrough in our Maths learning. The 6 times table is tricky, but we have discovered that making groups of 6 and adding on by 6 each time, gets the correct answer!

In our writing we were learning about Rabbie Burns. We planned a Birthday Party for him on Thursday and even had our own Burn’s Supper as the menu. Dominic and Laura loved the haggis. Shay and Nathan like the Tunnock’s Teacakes and the Irn Bru was a big hit with everyone!

Pics Below!

With the weather warning closing the school tomorrow, I will put some little tasks on the Teams page for anyone who wants to access them. Instructions are on the SWAY the school is sending out to all parents and carers on Thursday afternoon!

Stay safe everyone!

Primary 1

On Monday we had a great buddy session where we learned lots about Robert Burns and made information posters to show our learning.

Our Topic this term is Scotland and we are enjoying learning Scots language through stories and poems.

Our art this week was based on our Scottish topic, inspired by tartan  and Robert Burs we created our own tartan silhouette pictures.

On Thursday we celebrated Robert Burs day early. We learned that he is a very famous Scottish poet. We made shortbread in class as well as haggis neeps and tatties and had a burns supper, birthday party in class.

We were all excited and some a bit nervous about the weather, have a lovely weekend 😀

Rannoch News

This week we have enjoyed time with our Committee friends outside in the fresh air…where we also enjoyed Outdoor Morning.

We have also enjoyed learning more about the initial sound ‘i’.  We have confidently identified those items with the sound through pictures, model making and songs.

In our number work we have continued our learning with relation to patterns and worked on counting to 30 and writing the number 2.

We have also had great fun in P.E.  and enjoyed sensory activities.

Tay Class St. Mary’s Primary Enhanced Resource Base

What a difference a week can make… Tay Class had time playing outdoors on the grass now all the snow has melted.
We had a visit to the trim trail with Rannoch Class which we really enjoyed especially as we haven’t been there for a while.  AE and AH loved playing in the big puddle and did really well taking turns with one another.
We listened to and watched songs about ‘Hot and Cold’ and did a few follow-up activities. We’ll continue this topic next week.
Our favourite stories this week were ‘Arnie and the Donut’ and ‘The Three Little Pigs’.
Mrs McMaster had the big climbing frame and ladder out for us at PE.  We did so well balancing, climbing and challenging ourselves on this. Fantastic Tay Class!

Primary 1

In class this week we have been using different language for big and small in our number work, greater and less, more and fewer. We have played lots of games with numbers to develop our understanding.

We spent some time this week deciding what it was that we wanted to learn about Scotland for our topic, we came up with some fantastic ideas and are now keen to learn more.

It was lovely weather for our outdoor learning this week and we enjoyed spending some time in the school garden, checking on what we had planted at the start of the year. After the garden we had some time in the trip trail, work on our balance and co ordination skills as well as working together. Everyone loves getting outside.

In RE we learned the story of Noah and his Arc, we all made our own rainbows 🌈 to represent God’s promise.

Have a lovely weekend ☺️

Rannoch News

We have had a super week in Rannoch Class…Despite the snow being away we have enjoyed beginning our new Topic – ‘Winter’

We have been learning about related weather, what to wear and what animals do when the weather grows cold.

In our Read, Write Inc. lessons we have been learning about the initial sound ‘t’.

In our Beyond Number work we have been learning about patterns and how to recognise ‘what comes next’. In our Numeracy we have been learning how to count from 1-20.

All in all, a busy and happy week!

It’s 2025

Happy new year from primary 7!
we have came back from our winter holidays feeling refreshed and ready to learn. We have settled back into out structure and routine and enjoyed setting out 2025 goals. We discussed how we can be the best versions of ourselves for our last few years of primary school.

We have been working hard on our maths with building out thinking classrooms. Maths can be tricky but we are building connections how maths appears in our everyday life.

We enjoyed reuniting with our buddies and look forward to learning more with them in 2025.

Welcome to 2025… Ness off a good start!

Happy New Year from Ness Class. And what a start to 2025. Our budding entrepreneurs decided they would like to create their own McDonalds at cooking time today. Lots of processes to go through but the production line worked well. Fries, burgers (cheese and plain) and nuggets were offered. Inspired by the cartoon Sponge Bob, Dominic named our restaurant the Crispy Ness!

Enjoy our pictures!
