Thank you to the parents who were able to pop along to our Sharing the Learning event this morning.  As part of our Health and Wellbeing learning, this morning the children were finding out more about sun safety.  They all worked very well and chose a variety of activities to do with their parents.

A very special thanks to Miss Gaffney who has been in P1 and P2 this week as part of her school’s work experience programme.  The staff and children have all loved working with her and she has the makings of being a wonderful, caring and fun teacher!  We are very thankful for all her help and wish her every success in the future.

Numeracy Day in P1

To celebrate Numeracy Day we went outside to see that maths and numeracy can be fun. We realised that we use numbers regularly when we are playing. We counted how many passes we could make with the ball before dropping it. We drew shapes on the ground using chalk. We wrote numbers, some of us wrote all the way up to 40.  We also played hopscotch where we had to read numbers and count.

Well done to our next group of children who presented their Class Talks this week.  This term we are talking about our favourite fairytale.  This is an excellent opportunity to develop children’s talking and listening skills and we appreciate parent’s support with this task.

Ailsa – I liked making my poster.  I like Rumpelstiltskin.  I brought in the book too.

Lucy – I did a poster of Rapunzel and spoke about it.  Everyone liked it.

Charlotte – I liked talking and everyone listened,  I made a poster for it.

Primary 1 – Health Week Day 3

Health Week | Primary 7's Blog

Another amazing, fun and healthy day for Primary 1 today.  We started by making delicious fruit kebabs with our buddies and we tasted fruits we have had before and some new fruits too.  They were yummy and a great, healthy start to our day.  We enjoyed an exercise class in the P.E. hall and some of the nursery children came along too, which was lovely.  Before lunchtime we enjoyed doing some martial arts which we all absolutely loved!  In the afternoon we did a dance class led by Emma from SMK Dance and a football session led by Nicola Lind who is football player and referee!

Some feedback from Primary 1…

A great start to health week in P1

Primary 1 have had a fantastic start to Health week.
We started the morning with smoothies. We chopped the different fruit and added it to the blender. This wasn’t just any normal blender. We had to cycle to make the blender work. It was quite tough but we managed it and the smoothies were delicious.
Today we also had a fantastic session with Destination Judo.  We worked in pairs on the mat trying to hold each other and trying to escape. It was great fun.
The day was ended cheering on the staff V the P6/7 pupils during a game of netball. We loved watching our buddies and teachers playing against each other.

Primary 1 – Science

As part of our learning in Science, Primary 1 have been finding out about electricity.  They know that it is a form of energy that makes something work.  They can identify a number of appliances in our homes, school and local community that work by electricity.  They also are aware that it can be dangerous and can list some ways to stay safe when using electricity.  Children know why it is important in our daily lives and we reflected on what we could NOT do if we did not have electricity – it was quite a long list!  Look at some of our amazing pieces of work…

Children learned that electrical sings are vital to help indicate any hazards or risks associated with electrical equipment or power supply.  Some children commented that they have seen these signs in the local community.  We went on a hunt to see if there are any in the school and we designed our own electrical safety sign too!

This has been a super topic and the children have all really enjoyed being involved in different activities to  support this learning.

P1 Outdoor Eduction

We loved our first session of outdoor learning with Mr Lockhart. We had fun exploring the woodland area. Some of us were climbing trees, hunting for pine cones, looking for sticks and swinging on the rope swing. Mr Lockhart read us a story all about a dragon. We loved it and can’t wait for our next session.

Sofia – I liked playing on the rope swing

Evan – I had fun on the swing

Jorja – I loved climbing up the trees

Freya – I liked finding food for the squirrels

A great first week back in P1

Welcome back to all our P1 stars. We are delighted to see everyone back and ready to learn.  What a great first week we have had.
in maths we are learning to tell the time. We made our own paper plate clocks which we used to show different times. We really enjoyed playing time games on the interactive board and working with our talk partners to read o’clock and half past.

We made the most of the Spring sunny weather we had on Tuesday and spent some time in the afternoon at the park. We played on the seesaw, swings and climbing frames. Some of us had fun rolling down the hill.

We had a very exciting event happen in class. A dragon visited the class and left a glitter trail leading to a letter. The letter explained that his Fairyland had disappeared and there is nowhere for the Fairytale characters to live. He asked us to make a Fairyland in our classroom. We are really excited to help. We read Jack and the Beanstalk and decided to make a beanstalk in our classroom for Jack. We also drew and painted Jack, the giant and a cow to add to our display.
