P6 Community Proposal Models

This term, Primary 6 have been investigating the local area. We carried out research and collected evidence to identify what the strengths and areas for development were for Pumpherston and Uphall Station. Using this as inspiration, we came up with proposals for things that could be added to or changed in the local community. We wrote letters to West Lothian Council to persuade them to introduce our ideas and made 3D models of our proposals.

Suggestions included: car parks, cycle paths, shops, a community centre, a skate park, a swimming pool and extra maintenance for existing buildings in the community.

Here are some of our 3D models:

P6 Computer Coding

This term, P6 are learning about computer coding. This involves putting together pieces of code (instructions for the computer) to create an animation or a game.

Today we learned how to code a simple computer game called Pong (adults at home might have played this when they were younger!). We had to add sprites (characters) and a backdrop then use a variety of code to make a ball bounce off a paddle. We even added a scoring system to make the game competitive.

P6s can log in to their Scratch account at home to share their game with others.

P6 River Models

P6 have been learning about rivers this term and this week we have been getting creative! First, we used clay to make 3D models showing the course of a river from source to mouth. We included features like valleys, tributaries, meanders, floodplains, levees, estuaries and deltas. Then we used a variety of instruments to make a sound story to depict a river’s course from source to mouth. Take a look at our models in the pictures below and see if you can identify some of the features of a river.

P6 Christmas Fair goodies

In P6 we have been looking at persuasive writing. Molly Gilles and Kristinna Sharp produced a fantastic advert each to persuade you to come to our Christmas Fayre. The children have been working with P7 to produce a range of goodies to sell at the fair. Also P5, P6 and P7 have been practising some lovely Christmas carols to entertain you with at the Fair! See you on Friday!
