Primary 6

This week P6 have been practising a play for our assembly about the Titanic.  We know our parts now!  We also finished our homework task to make our own model of the Titanic.

We had a rehearsal for our Easter assembly for next week. Today we have been designing Easter eggs to decorate the hall.  Miss McLennan thinks they are fantastic!

We have also been playing maths champion to try to beat the p7s in a challenge next week.

Primary 4

We  went to a Bench Ball Festival on Monday it was awesome and we won some games.   Everyone in the class earned a certificate for being a Good Sport.  We also watched a bit of The Human Calculator .  He is a man who calculates big maths problems in his head!  We then tried this on Mrs Dugan (who wasn’t as good) and used a calculator to check her answers.   Next week we are looking forward to taking part in World Maths Day.   Thank you to Primary 6 for showing us how to log on and use the website.

The best part of our week was taking part in a human calcluator activity on glow. Scott showed us fanatstic things in maths and how important the number 9 is!!  We even tried being human calculators in our maths group this morning when we were calcuating volume.

We also enjoyed using our decking area in the sunshine this week as a learning area!!!

Next week we are looking forward to World Maths day on Wednesday!!

Primary 2

We have been making 3D models using 2D shapes.  We made a cut half way through the middle of two rectangles to join them together to make the base.  Each individual shape was then added by simply making a small cut in the middle of one of the sides of the 2D shape and half way through the shape.  The shape was then simply placed on to the existing base by sliding the cut shape over any part of the model to create a design.  Here are some examples of our work.  Why not try making one at home?

P1a Learning

This week was very exciting.Taffy our class dragon got a letter from his cousin George.  The letter told Taffy that all the buildings in Fairyland had been destroyed in a bad storm.  Taffy was asked to help.  We decided to help Taffy and all the characters in Fairyland to build new houses, castles, caves and a tree house.  This morning we made plans for the three little pig’s houses and next week we are going to build the houses from our plans. We are very excited!  We are using our skills in working together.  We also learned to tell the time using digital clocks and our next step is to match clock faces to digital times.  We are going to try to practice reading  the o’clock times at home. Let us know how you get on.

Primary 3

This week in writing Primary 3 wrote a Health article all about the heart. In maths we have been learning about fractions and halving and doubling numbers. Primary 3 have been also been researching about daily life in ancient Egypt for their topic.

Primary 2

This week in primary 2 we have been learning how to order numbers.  Learning about tens and units helped us to order larger numbers.

In literacy we have been working on segmenting and building words.  The children have enjoyed working with the magnetic letters and boards to do this.

Our new topic is the sun, moon and stars and we have been learning about this through a variety of activities.  We found out about the first man on the moon and used actions to remember his name.  Can you remember what the actions were?  In drama we worked in groups to man a space shuttle.  Pupils enjoyed this activity and particularly the space themed musical background.  They were great in role!  In art we used chalk drawing and blending skills to create sun, moon and stars pictures.  The children chose which one of two pictures to create.  They enjoyed being able to create the reflection of the moon on water. The artwork created was super and will be displayed in class.

P1m Reflective Learning

This week Primary 1m have been looking at symmetry.

We looked at butterflies and saw they have symmetrical wings. We made our own butterflies using paint. We also went around the school to look at reflections of things. We also used play-dough to make symmetrical faces. We made patterns and used mirrors to reflect them.

Til next week…
