P6 Weekly Update

This week in Primary 6 we have been focusing on the layout and presentation of our work. This has been something that we highlighted when self and peer assessing our work across all areas of the curriculum.

Literacy – We have been working on our joined handwriting and investigating nouns and proper nouns. This is something that we initially found tricky but we have picked up well. We have focused on how to use a dictionary effectively to assist us with learning and expand our vocabularies.

Maths – We have been focusing on how to collect information and the different ways in which it can be presented. We have gathered our own information and explored how to present this in bar graph and pictorial format.

PE – We have completed our block on handball and took part in a class tournament. We focused on team work, positive communication and enjoying ourselves.

Topic – We looked further into the process of digestion, explaining what happens at the different stages and we will be moving on to the respiratory system across the final stages of this term. This week we also celebrated International Womens Day.

Languages – This week we had Jess teaching Spanish greetings, numbers and colours. We are thoroughly enjoying learning different languages and are building up a bank of knowledge!

Have a  lovely weekend 🙂

P6 Weekly Update

Morning everyone,

We have had another busy week in Primary 6. Here is what we have been up to…

Literacy – We have been working on imperative verbs (bossy verbs) to help us when we begin writing our next piece of writing this term, which is a procedure. We were provided with our feedback from our information report, where we discussed our targets and areas of strength/improvement. As a class, we developed our knowledge of how to link and join our writing which is one of our core targets. We also worked on our knowledge of prediction and clarifying.

Numeracy/Maths – We have been learning about the Order of Operations. We have worked hard this week to understand the correct order to work out different sums. Mrs McConville continued to develop our knowledge of perimeter.

IDL/Topic – We have been learning further information about the skeleton. We did some personal research where we picked an area of the skeleton and had to find out key facts/information. We will be moving onto the digestive system next and we can’t wait!

Languages – This week we had Christina introducing us to Romanian. We started by learning basic greetings alongside numbers. We are loving this opportunity to learn different languages!

Have a lovely weekend!

Our new topic is rivers. Next week we will be going on a trip to investigate the River Almond. We are going to look at the river at Almondell Country Park and also at Crammond in Edinburgh.  Please make sure you have welly boots and appropriate clothing because we will be outside all day. We will be very tired that night.

P6 have done wonderful imaginative writing about The Beast.  It was difficult to choose, but this week’s star writer is Dolce.  Well done everyone.

P7

“We learned what to do when you’re being bullied from Childline” (Jordan)

“In P.E we got peer assessed and we self assessed how good we are in tennis” (Sophie)

” In maths we were finding partners for fractions and decimals” (Rebecca)

“In reading the red group were summarising and creating a new text about spiders” (Connor)

“In French we were learning how to say the weather in French for example cold – le frevo” (Shea)

Primary 3

Primary 3 have been learning about using adjectives in their writing to make it more interesting. See if you can improve these sentences by adding some interesting describing words.

1. The boy ran down the street.

2. I walked round the house.

3. I put on my jumper.

Weekly Blog from P6

This week we have been learning poetry! We were studying the Green man poem and enjoyed making up our own poems. For homework we have been learning Scottish poems for our Scots Assembly.  We have also been learning and practising ‘Strip the Willow’ and we hope to perform this at the Scots Assembly. For our Scottish topic we have been learning about Lord Joseph Lister. We have been very busy since we came back from our holidays!

P6 Christmas Fair goodies

In P6 we have been looking at persuasive writing. Molly Gilles and Kristinna Sharp produced a fantastic advert each to persuade you to come to our Christmas Fayre. The children have been working with P7 to produce a range of goodies to sell at the fair. Also P5, P6 and P7 have been practising some lovely Christmas carols to entertain you with at the Fair! See you on Friday!

Reading Showcase – The Reading Journey from Nursery to P7

We were delighted to welcome so many parents and carers to our learning showcase event held on Wednesday 27th November.  We know that parents are keen to support their child’s learning and we were glad to share the approaches used to develop reading from Nursery to Primary 7.  There was a short presentation about reading given by Miss Speirs, then the children shared their learning with our guests and showed how reading skills are taught in our school. There was an amazing turnout with over 100 visitors on the night.  Thank you to everyone who joined us, it was great to see you there.

P1 Reflective Learning

This week, P1 have been learning about labels.

First, we looked at fireworks on a video and looked at what shape they were, what colour they were and what noise they made.

Then, we went and drew our own fireworks on black card, making sure they were different shapes and colours. Then, we wrote a label next to our firework. We had words like BOOM, BANG, FIZZ and POP. We tried to write letters that we already knew.

Until next week…

P1 🙂
