P6 Blog

P6 have been lucky enough to take part in Karate and Judo taster sessions over the past couple of weeks. Across the two sports, we learned how to safely punch, kick, hold and throw. We even got to try out some nunchucks! Here are some photos of us in action.

Anti bullying week – Primary 6

Primary 6 have been thinking about how our emotions and actions can have an impact on our friends and the people around us.  This can be positive and helpful, or negative and sometimes even hurtful.

We thought about times when we free others to be themselves.

Here are some of the fantastic examples:

‘I free people when I tell them to be themselves and be happy.  I free people when I ask them to play with me and smile.  I free people when I tell them ‘Whatever they call you, nasty things, it isn’t true.’ ‘ – Sophie Martin.

‘I free people when I can respect how they are and understand how they are.  I free people when I see they are trying hard to be themselves.  I free people when they stop doing (things) to me and I can understand how or why they’re doing it.’- Sophie Campbell.

Anti-bullying week

In Primary 5 today we watched the Newsround special debate on bullying.  The big question was; is it better to PUNISH a bully or HELP them? A vote was held on the Newsround website and 47% said PUNISH, 53% said HELP.

Our vote was 50% PUNISH and 50 % HELP.  We then thought about what we do here in school already, and whether each thing was a punishment or a help.  Here are some of the comments from our discussion:

‘If you punish the bully, doesn’t that turn you into a sort of bully too?’

‘The bully gets to talk to the teacher, and they help the bully to understand their behaviour, and understand that we’re all like a big family here.’

‘They need to know there are consequences to what they do.’

‘We need to tell them to stop and give them a signal that what they are doing is wrong, and help them to understand that.’

‘We can set them a good example, that would be a help.’

‘When they get to write a letter of apology it helps the person who has been hurt too.’

What do you think about this question? Would you vote for PUNISH or HELP?

Thank you for the Vouchers!

Thank you to everyone who collected and donated Sainsbury’s  Active Kids vouchers. These have now been counted up and sent off with an order for some cooking and food preparation equipment and a big bag to keep the Kitchen Kit in.  This will be in use a lot next year in the classes across the school as we learn how to peel, chop, grate, mix, make – and taste- lots of different types of food. Yummy!

The Big Pedal

The Big pedal is almost over! This is the last week. We had a quick photo opportunity on Tuesday with the cyclists and scooter people – and the JRSOs too, of course.

The JRSOs were so impressed with our safe cyclist today that she was awarded 10 house-points for wearing her helmet.  She must have been paying attention to P2’s assembly.

Primary 3 Chefs

Primary 3 have been learning how to prepare healthy food, and trying new tastes in class.  Last week’s team made a delicious cous cous salad with a range of vegetables. This week the team of chefs made a refreshing fruit salad.  Any ideas of other simple recipes we can try, which will help us learn how to chop, cut, peel and grate?

Morrisons vouchers

Thank you to everyone who donated Morrisons ‘Let’s Grow’ vouchers to our school. We collected 1595 which will let us order more trowels, forks and planting equipment for our Ground Force box, and a couple of items to build up our food preparation equipment to help in our learning about Food and Health.

Harvest Service

Thank you again to everyone who donated goods to our Harvest table today. We were very grateful for all the food and produce brought in to school, and glad to be able to help our local community in this way. This year the table also included some of our OWN grown produce- the leeks were freshly pulled out of the raised beds this morning.

We hope everyone who joined us enjoyed our Harvest assembly and we wish all the best to everyone receiving a bag of Harvest goods. This year we were able to give bags to everyone nominated by our school family, and to send many bags to the West Lothian foodbank to help families in crisis. Thank you to the group of helpers who sorted out the bags for distribution. Your help is much appreciated.

We learned at Assembly how our money has helped our friends in Uganda to buy Braille machines for the school and orphanage in Magale, and we saw how happy the children were to receive a pencil each.

We can make a difference!
