P3 Weekly Update

This week we have been working on a new Literacy routine. This is where we have explored more active spelling tasks, reading with our friends, using our digital class library and many more literacy focused activities.

We created an Autumn wreath which we were able to put on show around our houses. We tried to make these from natural materials, however it didn’t quite work out that way!

P6 Weekly Update

Hi everyone,

During our short week back to school after the holidays,  we have completed lots of fun and engaging learning activities.

Literacy: We have been working on our ability to read for information through our use of skimming and scanning techniques. We looked further into how to summarise information from a chapter in our class novel, where we focused on picking key phrases/words from the text to show our understanding.

Numeracy: We have been developing our knowledge of multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. Mrs McConville began teaching us about perimeter and area this week.

Topic/IDL: We continued our topic of the Human Body – Body Systems where we looked further into the Skeletal system. We identified the key facts surrounding the Skeletal system and completed a task where we had to work collaboratively to name all of the bones in the body (this was tricky!).

Health and Wellbeing: We looked into gender stereotypes and ensuring that everyone is treated fairly and equally. We had many class discussions where we were able to listen to the opinion of others and express our own opinions.

Have a lovely weekend!

P3 Roots of Empathy

P3 are happy to be part of the Roots of Empathy (ROE) program this year. This program teaches children about feelings through regular visits from a baby and her parents.

We had our first visit from Mrs Brutin, our ROE instructor, this afternoon. She talked to us about what will happen in our ROE sessions and showed us some photos of the baby. We used our measuring skills to measure a doll and then used our estimating skills to guess whether the real baby would be bigger, smaller or the same size as the doll. P3 came up with lots of good questions about what the baby can do and we are going to ask these when we meet the baby and her parents.

Our first family visit (with the baby and her parents) will be in two weeks. Everyone is very excited to meet them!
