Showing our school values to the world

At Assembly this week we were delighted to hear about the fundraising Cerys and Nia had done for our partner school in Magale. The girls worked with their family and organised a coffee morning at their grandma’s house last weekend.  They served tea and coffee, held a raffle, sold home baking and made loom bands for sale.  The total raised was over £400! Wow!  We added on the money already raised here in school last term and presented the cheque to Mrs Comrie after assembly.

We were also treated to a slideshow presented by Molly, about her exciting trip to Malawi this summer with the charity Mary’s Meals.  This charity encourages children to go to school by making sure there is a meal for them to eat there during the day.  Molly took donations of toys and gifts, and met lots of new friends in Malawi.  She also got the chance to try the meal, called Pala, with the children, and she said it tasted a bit like porridge- but even worse!

Closer to home, we heard how Freya was a good and kind friend to Lauren when Lauren fell off her bike on her way back from school. Well done Freya.  We’re glad to see your leg is feeling better now Lauren.

These girls are great examples of our school values, showing respect and consideration for other people.

Have you seen any other good examples you would share with the world?

Nativity

Over the past few weeks, Primary 1 and Primary 1/2 have been learning about Nativity.

First, we heard the Nativity story, and tried to relate what we learned to our own ‘Wriggly Nativity’ story. We also looked at different versions of the story and talked about what was the same and what was different.

Then, we moved on to creating the programme for our own Nativity performance. We drew a picture of ourselves as our character, wrote our own name and tried hard to write our character’s name. They looked great! We photocopied them for our grown-ups to enjoy too!

Finally, after lots of singing and acting (and wriggling!) came our performance of ‘Wriggly Nativity’. After a slight delay from the fire alarm, we were ready to go! We loved the songs, especially the parts where we could wriggle! Mrs Andison and Miss McLaughlin were very proud – we’re sure we saw tears in their eyes! We really enjoyed our learning over this topic!

Miss McLaughlin and Mrs Andison would like to thank Nia Mullen (P5) and Lewis Paterson (P4) for being wonderful narrators; Liam Cavanagh (P7) and Zoe Evans (P7) for being super with our sound; Rebecca Lawrie (P7) and Alexa Renwick (P7) for selling our programmes; Miss Speirs for keeping the performance going; Mrs Hull for all the song rehearsals; all of the grown-ups who came to see our performance and bought the programmes, and finally, to the children in Primary 1 and Primary 1/2 who worked so hard to make the performance as special as it was. Thank you.

Merry Christmas from Primary 1 and Primary 1/2 🙂

The Christmas Extravaganza

Thank you to everyone who joined in the fun at the Christmas extravaganza today. It was a great success. Congratulations to the choir for singing so sweetly and starting the afternoon off in style.  We sent a roving reporter round the busy stalls to record some of the activity for the Blog.

More details, including a total for the funds raised, to follow soon.

P6 Christmas Fair goodies

In P6 we have been looking at persuasive writing. Molly Gilles and Kristinna Sharp produced a fantastic advert each to persuade you to come to our Christmas Fayre. The children have been working with P7 to produce a range of goodies to sell at the fair. Also P5, P6 and P7 have been practising some lovely Christmas carols to entertain you with at the Fair! See you on Friday!

P1 and P1/2 Enterprise

This week, Primary 1 and Primary 1/2 have started their enterprise project: to design a ‘sweet treat’ to sell at the Christmas Fayre.

First, we talked about the foods that we eat at Christmas. Then, we looked at Christmas magazines and cut out all the sweet things that we could find. After that, we worked in groups to think of things we could make to fit into small sweetie cases. Some of the ideas we came up with were, gingerbread men, marshmallow snowmen, truffles and reindeer biscuits.

Next week, we will decide our top products and plan how we are going to make them.

Homework task.. If you have time this weekend, could an adult bake or make ‘sweet treats’ with their children to practise baking skills.

Primary 3

A big thank you to all the primary 3 helpers who came along to the Health Open Evening to show the parents all the different fitness classes we can do with Cyber Coach. You were all great and the evening was a terrific success.  Everyone is having great fun today wearing their pyjamas to school. Primary 3 had a fashion show where all the boys and girls walked the catwalk  to show off their stylish bedtime wear!

Craft for Enterprise After-school Club

After our successful sale at the end of last term, the club are pleased to announce they made £40.59 profit.

We have decided to use this money to buy new materials for our next sale.  Following a long discussion we agreed to spend most of our money on ‘Fimo’ and we are currently busy making new crafts each Monday.

Thank you again to all those who visited our stall, we hope you liked our crafts.
