Hello,
We have had a busy and fun week.
We started the week by celebrating Chinese New Year through different art activities. There were fantastic moving dragons made and beautiful pastel drawings of tigers.
In reading, we have continued to make and change our predictions as we read more of ‘Christophe’s Story’. Today we had a go at ‘hot seating’ where we have a chance to turn into the character and the rest of the class ask us questions. Well done to those who volunteered to have a go, they did really well!
In maths we have continued to explore more about fractions. We have been using the cuisenaire rods to represent different fractions. They have helped us to understand that the size of the fraction is smaller when the denominator is bigger as it has been split into more parts. We are becoming more confident in using the language: halves, quarters, thirds, fifths, sixths, etc. After watching a story called ‘The Lion’s Share’, we had a go at solving some fraction problems from the story. During this task we even started talking about sixty fourths and even smaller fractions! Take a look at some of our pictorial problem solving:
