Primary 3

For this block of Science, Primary 3 will be learning about water.

This week, we brainstormed everything that we knew about water (e.g. it is wet, used for drinking and washing, comes in the form of rain, it can change into ice and steam). Then, Miss McLaughlin set us a challenge – there were little plastic people trapped inside a block of ice! We had to work in teams to find the best way to free them. See the photos below for our findings. #successfullearners

Primary 2

This week in Primary 2 we have been looking at our persuasive writing. We watched a reading of the book ‘Don’t let the pigeon drive the bus’ and then identified all of the ways the pigeon tried to persuade us to let him drive the bus. We then worked together to come up with a list of reasons for why we thought he shouldn’t drive the bus. #effectivecontributors

After we had our list of reasons for both sides, we had a go at being persuasive ourselves, by writing a letter to the bus driver. Our letters had to either persuade him to let the pigeon drive the bus or persuade him not to let the pigeon drive the bus. We used out knowledge of the four sections of persuasive writing (Title, Statement of Position, Series of Arguments and Concluding statement) to help us structure our letter. Here are some examples :

Primary 1

Primary 1 were successful learners this week because we were able to count up coins and add amounts together to find a total.

We have also enjoyed using real coins to buy items in our class shop and practising our writing skills to create shopping lists.

P2/1

P2/1 were  Successful Learners this week. As part of our Fairyland topic, Taffy the dragon set us a challenge to design a shoe for Cinderella’s wedding. Our shoe design had to include the following:

  • a heel
  • buttons or straps
  • no bright colours
  • a silver or gold badge.

We successfully completed our designs and sent them to Taffy to show Cinderella.

This week we have been learning to multiply 2 digit numbers by 10. We have been using concrete materials to demonstrate what is happening. By using concrete materials the children become confident individuals because they can see what is happening,

Primary 1

To mark Bonfire Night, Primary 1 used paint and coloured chalk to recreate the shapes and colours of fireworks exploding in the sky. We also talked about how to keep safe around fireworks.

Within numeracy this week, Primary 1 have begun learning how to use money. So far we have looked at the value of different coins and practised counting up 1p, 2p and 5p coins to find a total.

Primary 2

This week in Primary 2 we have been listening out for our word boost words in our story Goat Donkey and the Noise Downstairs. We have added them to our word wall alongside the words we have learned from our first two stories (Who’s at the door & The Storm).

In numeracy we have been learning about place value. We are practising using concrete materials as well as digital resources to help us work out our hundreds, tens and units.

Primary 6’s Amazing Week of Work

Dear parents/carers,

We would like to share our learning from this week with you. We have had a fantastic week where we have worked hard to demonstrate the school values.

In Numeracy, we have been learning how to find the value of each digit in a 5 or 6 digit number. We have also been extending our knowledge of place value where we participated in various active maths activities such as Place Value Castle and Cards.

In Literacy, we have been exploring our new class novel, The Boy at the Back of the Class and focusing on our different spelling patterns. We have learned about the features of a persuasive piece of writing and taken part in a class game of Countdown.

We have also been introduced to our new piece of writing for this term, which is an exposition. We explored the purpose and audience for this type of text and we are looking forward to getting started.

In PE, we had our first lesson on Volleyball and Badminton with both Miss Walkingshaw and Mrs McConville.

In RME, we explored the 5 main religions and beliefs from around the world. Over the coming weeks, Mrs McConville will explore this with us.

I hope you have a lovely weekend and keep safe.
