Primary 6

This week in P6 there has been lots of learning going on. We have been working in our topic groups to make a  model of the Titanic. The parts of it that we’ve been making are:  the funnels, the decking, the hull and the sea.

In writing we have been writing settings for stories and trying to guess other peoples. We really all enjoyed our writing this week because we had  to guess each others settings.

We were given our tickets for the Titanic in drama.  Some people had first class tickets, others second and third.

In assembly we where thinking about consideration of others and Rights week after the holiday.

Everyone dressed inside out today to raise money for UNICEF!  We had to spell our words forwards and backwards for our spelling check-up!

We hope everyone has a good long weekend!

In writing this week we wrote about traditions during Chinese New Year.  In maths we are looking at different shapes and the triangles maths group have been introduced to the triangular prism. In topic this week, we found out how jewellery was an important part of Egyptian life even for the poor people. We used a range of materials to make our own Egyptian bracelets and necklaces.

P7 Poets!

Earlier this week Primary 7 worked in pairs to create a recipe poem about what makes Scotland great!

Here are some quotations from them-

“Drop in 282 munros and dust them with snow”. By James and William.

“Take some beautiful empty land, stir in the sound of music”. By Junior.

“Then dip in some noisy bagpipes as loud as a lions roar.” By Lewis Taylor

“Grate the grass around the thistles.” By Michael.

They will be on display outside the P7 classroom for you to read!

We achieved our class target!!!!!

Primary 2

This week we have been working on ‘ai’ and ‘ay’ sounds in words, paying particular attention to where these sounds appear in words.  The children have been creating these words in bubble writing and decorating them in their own style to be displayed on our word wall in class.  There have been some very interesting designs which clearly show individual creativity and imagination.

Primary 6

Everyone has been busy this week rehearsing for our Scots afternoon. I think you’ll agree it was worth all the hard work! Primary 6 poets were excellent and a special well done to Ellie Hamilton and Amy Barnett for their recitals of ‘Bingo’ and ‘Oor New School’ on the day.

Scot’s Afternoon

This week saw our very successful Scot’s afternoon for the senior citizens of Pumpherston and Uphall Station as well as many of our parents and grandparents.  The children all worked hard to learn a selection of Scot’s poems and a several traditional scot’s songs and P5 learned a dance, which they performed with great enthusiasm.  The afternoon was a great success and the audience appeared to enjoy it thoroughly.

This week we have been learning about the effects of gravity.  We have also been looking at Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh and drawing part of it using chalk pastels.

P2 enjoyed performing in the Scots afternoon this week.  Well done to Matthew M and Katie C who learned and recited their poems confidently to the audience.

UNICEF Day for Change

We will be supporting UNICEF’s Day for Change next Friday by having an Inside Out Day.   Children can come to school on Friday 8th February wearing their clothes inside out!  In return children are asked to bring a donation of 50p to help supprt UNICEF’s vital work.

Primary 4

This week we have been learning about the uses of water in Science.  We made a diagram to show how we had used water in a day.  Next week we will be learning about how important water is to us and how we can prevent water wastage.

We wrote imaginative stories in writing about travelling in a Time Machine.  Some people went on an adventure to the past and some people went into the future!

Next week Ewan McVicar will be visiting Primary 4.   He is going to talk to us about food in other countries.   We will also be taking part in a joint bird migration art activity with another school in Africa.
